Year 8 Visual Arts

This term to kickstart Year 8’s introduction to Visual Arts students worked collaboratively as a team to complete a series of drawing challenges. These challenges enabled students to communicate with one another and test their drawing skills under timed conditions. In class, students explored the Elements of Art, where the Mr Squiggle and the 10 minute – 1 minute - 10 second challenge allowed students to communicate with one another and apply various lines, shapes and forms to create a wide range of imaginative artworks. Students carried out Gallery Walks where reflecting on their experience in participating in these challenges and were able to see what their peers had produced.

Languages – Year 7 French

Year 7 have made a great start to high school learning in the French classroom this year. They are learning how to introduce and talk about themselves and their families. We have been playing lots of games to consolidate their learning and they appear to be having lots of fun learning how another language and culture work. We can’t wait to see their Flipgrid videos later this term.

Dance

Dance students have been extremely busy so far this term and it is only week 6 as I write this! We have worked very hard to audition two groups for Starstruck this year and have all our fingers crossed for successful applications for both groups. We have also been extremely lucky to have been accepted into a Department of Education Arts initiative program where 20 students from Years 7-10 have the opportunity to participate in three online zoom workshops with Bangarra Dance Theatre and we can’t wait to see the outcome of these workshops at the end of March.

Music

Music students have gotten off to a rocking start this year! Year 7 have started off learning about the basics of music and are currently trying their hand at Bucket Drumming! There is a lot of talent amongst this amazing group of young people so watch this space!

Year 9 & 10 have also been busy as they are preparing for their collaborative performances for their current projects, ‘Beats and Bands’, and ‘Music of Today’. We have many keen performers in these year groups that cannot wait to show you what they are learning. Stay tuned!!

Year 12 are currently developing their elective choices and working through their assessment tasks as they prepare themselves for their HSC. They have been busy this term working on elective 2 and their current topic, ‘Music for Small Ensembles’. We wish them all the best in their preparation!
