LEARNING & SUPPORT

Over this term, the Learning and Support faculty has been busy providing support from Stages 4 to Stage 6.

Year 7 have participated in Best Start Year 7 online assessments for Reading, Writing and Numeracy assessments and Year 8 will be participating in online Check in Assessments for Reading and Numeracy later in the term. Year 9 are actively improving their Reading and Numeracy skills in small group sessions in preparation for NAPLAN. These sessions will continue until NAPLAN assessments early next term.

Continued support and guidance are occurring for Stage 6 students in the study centre. This is an excellent space for senior students to utilise to keep up to date with, and receive support for, their work and assessment tasks. The Study Centre’s hours are:

Monday – Thursday:     7:00 am – 4:30 pm (depending on student attendance)

Friday:                                7:30 am – 2:35 pm

LIBRARY

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself as the new Teacher Librarian at Kurri - my name is Jennifer Allan. I am eager to continue to get to know the students and start inspiring some new people about the beauty of books, whilst also supporting the diverse information needs of the school.

With the restrictions that have come along with Covid it has been a slow start to the library, however with the recent easing of restrictions I hope to see a renewing of interest and use of the library. Next term a variety of different lunchtime activities will be starting to inspire those with creative and inquisitive minds.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

This year I will also be supporting students who wish to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is an excellent opportunity for students to not only read, but also to challenge themselves. To access the competition, students need to go to the following website: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

They can also come and speak with me in the library.

International Women’s Day

With International Women’s Day on March 8th, I have also set up a display of books to celebrate the many and varied women who play a starring role in literature. This display will shift with other key events throughout the year.
