Junior School Debating

The HICES Debaters competing in their first debate on Friday against Blue Mountains Grammar School. They debated the topic 'students should learn to type not write'. It was an excellent first debate against a worthy opposition, the adjudicator commented that both schools should be proud of themselves for such a strong start. Unfortunately Kinross lost both debates but a lot was learned on how to improve for Round Two.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

As part of our phonics program Kindergarten have been learning about the sound /t/. They have been thinking about words that begin with this sound and are beginning to use this sound when blending CVC words. To reinforce this learning we read The Tiger Who Came to Tea and celebrated Judith Kerr’s work with a terrific tea party featuring 28 tremendous tigers.

Year 4 Geography

To continue with our studies of sustainability in Geography, Year 4 undertook a rubbish audit of the junior school. We collected and tallied soft plastics, recyclable plastics, paper and food waste. In our Maths lesson, we used the data on soft plastics to create column graphs, as you can see there was a lot left behind! We encourage everyone to pack 'nude food' in their lunchboxes and keep soft plastic use to a minimum.

Pre-Kinder Farm Visit

On Tuesday 22 March Pre-Kinder had their first Windemere visit for the year. It was an absolutely beautiful day.

As it was the first time it was important they had the opportunity to explore the new environment and feel comfortable.

  • We talked about some farm safety: not walking in long grass or putting our hands down holes and to watch where we are walking.
  • The children made pretend camp fires, and fairy tents, picked zucchinis from the veggie patch, watered the veggie patch, met the chickens and the ducks

It is lovely to see the children explore and play outside the Pre-Kinder playground.

We were only there for an hour and a half but the children were still very tired when we got back.
