INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR EDUCATION - HATTAH CAMP

Students travelled to Hattah for two days of hiking and lightweight camping to put into practice skills learnt over the Semester. There was a little rain in the afternoon of day one, however students were well prepared with their tents pre set up and rain jackets on hand.

Students hiked from the Hattah store into Lake Mournpall camp ground. Students took turns to use a map and compass to lead the group and navigate the route, proving to be on point with their Navigation Skills. Along the way we all enjoyed the environment and saw emus, a wedge tail eagle’s nest and the full waters of Lake Mournpall. Students proved to be master chefs with their Trangia cooking skills at dinner time and then slept in tents overnight.

Day 2 was hiking, with no rain, into the Hattah Information Centre, again students chose the route and navigated their way expertly. A valuable Outdoor Education learning experience was had by all adventurers. Well done!

EXPEDITION OUTDOOR EDUCATION MT ARAPILES CAMP

The Expedition Outdoor Education adventures camp to Mt Arapiles was from Monday November 15 to Friday November 19. Students completed various Outdoor Education activities including rock climbing, abseiling and hiking around Mt Arapiles. Students camped in tents at the Mt Arapiles Pines Campground and showed off their Trangia cooking skills and whipped up delicious meals at breakfast and dinner. On Thursday, we had a day trip to Halls Gap for a three-hour mountain bike ride to Lake Fynes and back, lunch in Halls Gap, then across to Horsham Aquatic Centre for refreshing swimming fun and showers.

Throughout the week everyone learned important life lessons including self-reliance, independence, and the development of an adventurous spirit. They also learned the value of lifelong outdoor recreation for enjoyment, health and wellbeing and developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature through direct experience.
