"But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son; no one but the Father."

Mark 13: 24-32

What are we waiting for?

Sunday's Gospel demonstrates the realisation of how as humans, we are destroying the Earth that God created for us.  It includes apocalyptic discourse and God's ultimate triumph. There is certainty in the assurance that in the end, Divine power will prevail. What is uncertain, is when all this will come to pass.

In Pope Francis' encyclical about the environment, 'Laudato si' (“Praise be to you”) he provides a worldwide wake up call to help humanity understand the destruction that man is rendering to the environment and his fellow man.

The most recent United Nations Summit Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow, highlighted the global need to take care of our world and repair the damage that has taken place over so many years, sparked by the many stages of the industrial revolution.

The fig tree and vivid imagery of the Scriptural text links to the upheaval of the human life both personally or for the whole of creation and what lies ahead is beyond our sight. Nevertheless, we have the ability and the power to rescue the planet we live on with the liberated hope and energies to work the well being of the world through resilient faith.

What are we waiting for?
