Minecraft Education Walkthroughs

Exploring Environments

In the Year 9 Community Elective – Exploring Environments students have just wrapped-up their ‘Sustainable Cities’ design challenge. Students used Minecraft Education to build 3D models of their sustainable city. Working in teams, students structured their city’s sustainable features around five key areas: energy, food, nature, transport and waste.

During the Minecraft Walkthroughs students showcased their Minecraft skills and innovative ideas for their sustainable cities. They included design elements and sustainable features they learnt from case studies they explored like Masdar City, the 2040 documentary and War on Waste, and used design thinking strategies they gained from their recent excursion – Autocrops (The Whittlesea Tech School).

Groups designed green vertical buildings like those in Milan’s Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest towers), solar farms, hydrogen-powered bullet trains, electric car re-charge stations, wind turbines, roof-top solar, urban regenerative farms, aquaponics, community gardens and so much more. Importantly, this design challenge allowed students to work in teams and exercise their critical thinking, creativity, project management, collaboration, research, presentation and digital skills.
