A word from our student leaders ...

Head Girl Boarder- Audrey Gill

Girl’s boarding at Kinross Wolaroi is an incredibly special place that I have had the pleasure of living in, experiencing and now leading for 2022. Over the three years I have spent here, I have developed many skills that have enabled me to visualise goals that will contribute to the positive and welcoming environment of boarding.

Since Mrs Whittemore has become Head of Girls Boarding, she been able to make effective and impactful changes and we have worked closely in developing certain improvements such as the boarding food by altering the menu, as well as the renovation of boarding facilities, which will allow for the girl boarders to have the best facilities possible. During 2022, my hopes for the girls' boarding site would be to help facilitate more interactions of the girl and boy boarders, utilising the PLC grounds for activities, and growing the support networks of boarding houses and community involvement.

As COVID-19 restrictions have affected the boarding system, with no visitors permitted and little activity between houses, we are eager for restrictions to ease. Whilst we have done our best to make do with the restrictions, having a Zoom house dinner for the graduating Year 12 students, as well as bus and room restrictions, we are hopeful that we will soon be able to embrace visitors in boarding houses, activities and off site excursions.  2022 looks like a very promising year to for plans to be initiated and executed.

Head Boy Boarder- Bryce Commins

As we wrap up our year at Kinross Wolaroi School, I believe it’s important to look back and reflect on what we have achieved in boarding. Boarding has experienced another wonderful year through our multifarious integration of weekend activities and intra-house competitions. While there wasn’t much chance for inter-house activities due to the ongoing effects and concerns of COVID-19, we all hope that more opportunities will open up for future years.

As the Senior Boarding Prefect, I take pride in the resilience and cooperation shown by my peers and I sincerely believe that they will maintain a similar ethic in the future. I am very hopeful that the future will see a reduction of restrictions as inoculation levels in the community continue to rise and boarding is able to open up and thrive together as a collective. As a leader in the boarding community, I hope to engage more with other houses and learn more about our very diverse and engaging community.

I like to envision leadership as a role to be less commanding, more communicating. I think it’s important to remain connected to all facets of our boarding community to cover all the bases of complaints and concerns to maximise the enjoyment and satisfaction of everyone’s boarding experience. I look forward to meeting the new students who arrive at Kinross Wolaroi next year and acting as a guidepost for them, that I may help them in their journey to ensure they are happy and satisfied in being a part of our community. I look forward to helping our boarding community thrive and seeing all our members vibrant and ready for a new year after we return from our break.
