For the past 18 years the Performing Arts Department at Kinross Wolaroi School has been much blessed by the amazing Annie McRae. Annie embodies all that is wonderful in an educator: she fosters excellence in her classroom for children of all capacities, loves her students and is passionate about teaching and learning. Annie brings a sense of fun to everything she does and has been an excellent asset to the school. She is extraordinarily versatile, teaching Music from Pre-Kinder to Year 12, conducting bands and choirs, teaching ‘cello to young musicians and playing piano for all manner of events. Annie will be much missed by the students and her colleagues are beyond sad to see her go. We wish Annie every happiness as she and her family re-locate to Port Macquarie.
As 2021 comes to a close, we reflect on ‘the year that wasn’t’ for performing arts! We have desperately missed making music with our ensembles for many months and hope that next year may be filled with making music together once again. We are incredibly grateful to our tutors who we were fortunate enough to welcome back to campus after lockdown. They have been keeping the music alive! Thank you also to our parents, for supporting our tutors and encouraging students to persevere with playing at a time when there has been very little tangible reward. The future of our music program relies on all our wonderful musicians continuing to play in 2022 as we work to rebuild our program and keep it going from strength to strength.
Although we are still awaiting government advice for music ensembles for 2022 in schools, we are hoping that we can resume and reinvigorate our fabulous co-curricular program with the return of the following ensembles.
Strings Program – Year 1 String Program, Beginner Strings & Junior String Orchestra
Band Program – Beginner Band & Junior Concert Band
Choral Program – Stage Choirs & Koristers (Years 5-8)
Percussion – Junior Drum Corp (Years 4+)
Dance – Beginner Dance Ensemble (Years 1-3) & Intermediate Dance Ensemble (Years 4-6)
2021 has been a very difficult year and we have been grateful that our students have been able to continue with their performing arts individual lessons throughout this period. These lessons are essential, and they underpin our vibrant co-curricular ensemble program
We’re looking forward to ensemble groups re-commencing in 2022, and we await government advice to this effect. In the interim, individual lessons enable our students to continue to develop their musical skills. Many students achieved outstanding results in both AMEB and IMEB examinations this year despite ongoing restrictions.
Individual lessons will recommence in Week 2 of Term 1, 2022. Please complete this form by Wednesday 1 December 2021 to secure your child’s enrolment for 2022.
Congratulations to Zaro Jalal, who recently sat his Grade 4 Contemporary Drum Exam at the Conservatorium, gaining an outstanding result of 90%. Congratulations to Zaro on his hard work and perseverance in practicing during such a disrupted year.
Ben Howe (Year 3) has been working hard with Mrs Moxey in his lessons. Here he is performing Mr Crocodile in preparation for Preliminary Grade.
Our string program concluded with the last performance from our young musicians last week. We have been thoroughly delighted at the joy and progress our students have made on either the violin and cello and look forward to seeing some students continue into individual tuition and then into our co-curricular program.
Please enjoy the students’ performances.
Cello: Nick & Lulu
Violins: Grace, Madeleine, Xavadu, Darcy, Maddy, Phoebe & Alec
