In his message for Lent 2021, Pope Francis calls on the faithful to “renew our faith, draw from the living waters of hope, and receive with open hearts the love of God.”

Third Week of Lent

Pope Francis focuses on the three theological virtues in his Lenten message for 2021, inviting the faithful to “renew our faith, draw from the living waters of hope, and receive with open hearts the love of God.”

Although hope may seem challenging in fragile and uncertain times, “Lent is precisely the season of hope, when we turn back to God.” 'Turn back to God' is precisely the lyrics of a song we sang today during Senior C's Reconciliation celebration. We all need to turn back to our God at some point of our lives.

Sunday's Gospel linked well to the virtue of hope through the healing hands of Christ and the many sick people He encountered and cured. We can recontextualise this Biblical text from over two thousand years ago with that of the contemporary work many medical practitioners are performing globally today in 2021 to assist and heal those who have been afflicted with many diseases including the Corona Virus.

May our courage to pray during this Lenten Season equip us with hope and belief that Christ's work still continues today amidst uncertainty.

"The call to experience Lent as a journey of conversion, prayer and sharing of our goods, helps us – as communities and as individuals – to revive the faith that comes from the living Christ, the hope inspired by the breath of the Holy Spirit and the love flowing from the merciful heart of the Father."

Grow in gratitude and empathy.
