WoodiWiLD Project (School Environmental Ambassadors)

At Canterbury Girls High School we are passionate about preserving the environment in order for everyone to have a safe and happy future. The School Environmental Ambassadors (SEA) are proudly committed to promoting environmental awareness, helping the environment and developing more sustainable practices. Last years fundraising saw 144 trees planted near Wagga Wagga. Every tree planted is a small step taken to help save our biodiversity in Australia. SEA would like to thank everyone who has supported this project.

Bird Cage

Year 11 students Peta Soilemezis and Amie Jackson have been doing bird cage duties for a year now, looking after our school Cockatiels.

RAISE Mentoring

Canterbury Girls High School is this year partnering with the Raise Youth Mentoring Foundation (Raise) to provide mentoring programs to approximately 15 students in Year 8.  Raise evidence based programs provide the opportunity for our students to have access to a fully trained mentor who is there to coordinate a weekly program where students work with adults from a variety of businesses and industries.  This unique one-to-one experience has been proven to help our students increase social and emotional wellbeing, goal setting and achievement, build confidence and the ability to make better choices. The program will commence in Term 2  and continue through to early Term 4 2021.

Term 1  RUFT Quiz Winners

by Ms. Yen

What a great term it has been for the 5-week Challenge - RUFTS Quiz winners!!!

Each winner received a $20 Gift card from Officeworks and our two-time winners, the Alagiri sisters, received scientific calculators.

We had average of 50 entries for each week.

RUFTS is Canterbury GHS problem-solving tool using Newman’s 5 Error Prompts:

1. Read the Question

2. Understand  the Question (Look at Task words: doing words)

3. Filter the Question (Collect Keywords: information)

4. Think about the correct Formulas / Techniques

5. Solve and Check / Start writing with ALARM, PEEL, etc.

Why do we need to learn Problem-Solving skills?

When you learn problem-solving skills, it will help you to:*be better with people in general, like having positive relationships*avoid conflicts*strengthen your empathy skills *help you to learn more positive things about another person's intentions.

This is why it is crucial to learn and practise the problem-solving skills now!

Canterbury GHS started having a RUFTS Quiz each term since Term 3 last year and it has been a great way of creating new brain cells for us.

The SAS Staff joined the competition for the first time and really enjoyed the experience.

A lot of teachers and students and SAS staff asked me when is the next round as they missed out this time.

Next 5-week Challenge will start in Term 2 week 4!

Meantime, please use RUFTS as often as you can and learn to master your problem-solving (or critical thinking) skills.

Thank you for enjoying this fun event and thanks to all the RUFTS teachers:
