COVID Restrictions – Face Masks

Below is the latest advice from the Department of Education and Training regarding the use of face masks:

Face masks are no longer mandatory in all indoor spaces for school staff and visitors. They are recommended when physical distancing of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained.

Harmony Day is represented by an orange ribbon , and participants are encouraged to wear orange due to connotations of social communication, freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australia prides itself on being a multi-cultural society, with figures showing that nearly half of all Australians were born overseas, with the country seeing a high volume of migration every year. On top of this, more than 70 Indigenous languages are spoken in Australia and it has a very rich tribal heritage.

The continuing message of Harmony Day is 'Everybody Belongs' and its annual observance aims to encourage inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural background, and celebrate core Australian values. Harmony Day is celebrated annually on 21 March in Australia. Harmony Day began in 1999, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

It is celebrated with many community festivals and local events with global food and music and traditional dress.

           Easter Hat Parade

Start creating your fabulous hats now. There will be a prize winner from each class.

Please bring a gold coin donation which will go to the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal.

Volunteering at LPPS and the WWCC

As restrictions are easing, we are welcoming parents into the classrooms!

For parents to come into the classroom, attend school excursions and camps, each individual needs a Working with Children Check (WWCC) on file at LPPS.

If you need to apply for a volunteer Check, which is free, you can do so here: https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

Also, a number of WWCC cards expired last year. If you plan to continue volunteering, please renew your card. In general, WWCC sends a reminder email approximately a month prior to a card ‘due by’ date.

Please note, any visitors or volunteers are required to sign in at the school office before heading into the classroom.

Lost Property

Lost property is easy for us to assist with if clearly named. When items are handed in to the office we first check if it is named. If named it is not lost and will be returned to the child via the teacher. We are finding lots of items that are unnamed turning up at the office. Plastic food containers and drink bottles are very common items, often still containing food and we end up having to dispose of them. There is also  many small toys and balls. Brand new uniform without names also turn up and are often not collected.

Individual Education Plans

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a document that establishes a set of learning goals and objectives for an individual student. IEPs are developed by teachers, students and parents to:

  • support and actively engage the student in the learning process.
  • build necessary skills and achieve success in various aspects of the curriculum.
  • understand personal learning strengths in ways that enhance learning competence and confidence.

The IEP informs parents / guardians and students of progress and plans the future directions for learning.

Teachers are currently developing IEPs for selected students and these will be communicated with you in the coming weeks.
