Northcote High School Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra performing at Federation Square

Northcote High School Performance at Federation Square

The Northcote High School Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra were invited to perform at Federation Square for the recent Australian Music Examinations Board ( AMEB) Centenary Celebrations.

The Online Orchestra Project is an ambitious project designed to allow all musicians in Australia to have the opportunity to participate in recording the song Waltzing Matilda.  We downloaded the parts and backing track and started to rehearse during term 2. Our rehearsals culminated with a trip to Decibel’s recording studio in Reservoir to record our submission track and video. There were hundreds of entries received from all around Australia. These were then collated into an audio-visual presentation, which was launched with the participation of our ensembles at Federation Square on Wednesday.

This event was live streamed, and can be viewed at the following website: https://centenary.ameb.edu.au/event.

Novice Concert Band Primary School Tour

On Thursday the 23rd of August the Northcote High Novice Band had its very own tour. On this day the band travelled to Westgarth and Bell Primary Schools, where three performances took place. The band consists of year sevens to nines who have only been playing their instruments since the start of the year. The first two performances happened at Bell Primary, one for the younger students and the other for the older. The final performance took place at Westgarth P.S. where the songs were a huge success among all age groups. This is the second public performance by the novice band this year, the first being at the mid-year concert. We are looking forward to future performances and hope that our music can further improve.
