Yr 9/10 Girls soccer team at the State Soccer Finals
Congratulations to our Yr 9/10 Girls soccer team who competed in the State Soccer Finals on September 3 at DISC. With many of their regular team members away on the Northern Territory Camp the team were a little worried going into the State Finals. Putting their nerves behind them, each and every player rose to the challenge showing their skills and teamwork. Our first match was against Maribyrnong. Although we lost the match 2-0, our girls did not make it easy for the well known sports school, putting the pressure on in defence and working well together in attack. In our other 2 matches our girls continued to worked well together, sharing the ball around, working hard in defence and supporting each other on and off the pitch. Results against Bendigo South East 3-3 and Galen Wangaratta – 1-1. Overall winner for the day was Maribyrnong, the only team our girls lost to. Outstanding effort by all. A big thank you our student helpers Rosie Rodger, Harriet and Matilda Lohrey..
As is often the case, it was a windy day at Meadowglen for our Regional Athletics Carnival on Wednesday. Around 30 team members represented NHS in the track and field events. All team members should be congratulated on their efforts and sportsmanship during the competition. Congratulations to the following students who have qualified to compete at the State Athletics on October 22 - Amira Tabit, Niamh Tabit, Javier Tabit, Archie Noakes, Peter Panopoulos, Mikaila Young, Grace Young, Douglas Buckeridge and our relay team, Nick D’Orazio, Kai Shookry, Andrew Italia and Sam Dite.
Well done to our Yr 8 Girls soccer team who finished on top of their pool at the State Championships after defeating North Geelong 1-0, Galen College 4-1 and Girton College 2-0. Winning the 3 matches qualified the team to move into the Grand Final against Elizabeth Murdoch College. Unfortunately Rosie Rodger injured her calf early in the match and Zoe Foggiato needed to leave the pitch due to knock to the head. Thankfully the rest of the team stepped up in their absence and continued to play hard in attack and defence. The game finished with the scores locked at 1-1, pushing the game into extra time. After playing 5 minutes each way the scores were still tied, resulting in a nail biting penalty shootout. After some tense moments Elizabeth Murdoch came away with the win. Our girls shouldn’t be disappointed, they played so well together and have high hopes of going one better next year. A big thank you to our wonderful student coaches Arthur Maj and Sean Moorehead and thank you also to all of the parents and family members who came down to support during the day.
Throughout third team Year 7 boys have been attending table tennis training before school at 8am in the gym on Fridays.

On Tuesday 4th September Jack Foenander, Matthew Santoro, Hugo Waples and Ionnis Syrbopoulos went through to the next round in table tennis.
Six teams competed: Reservoir A and B, Thornbury A and B, St Johns and Northcote.
There was no final – the team with the most wins progressed.
Our boys were untouchable – they beat each of the other five teams six sets to love. In fact of 31 games played the boys only conceded one!
They will compete in the region finals next term on October 24th.
Mr Neal

Congratulations to our Yr 7 Boys and our Yr 7&8 Girls Hockey teams who competed in the Divisional Hockey Competition on Thursday 13 September. Both teams had one match only and came away with a win each moving them through to the Regional Competition which to be played in October. A big thank you to Ms Archibald, our Student Coach Taysen Wilcox and our Parent Coach Martin Cashmere (Joon’s dad) for coaching the teams prior to and on competition day.
It has been a very busy term as far as the Sports Department goes. We have had almost 50 sports teams go out throughout this term alone. We thank each and every coach, student coach and player for all their dedication and hard work in helping our school compete at their best. We also would like to thank our NHS families for their support too. We hope you all have a safe, happy and restful holiday.
