Living Curiosity and Humanity: an incredible trip

Northern Territory Trip

The Northern Territory trip was one of the most incredible trips of our life. To be away from a classroom environment and instead, be out in the open, learning about our country was truly incredible. As a group, each day we would partake in hikes, traditional activities and cultural talks to learn about the owners of this land and Australia’s culture. Starting our trip off in Yulara we explored Uluru and Kata Tujta.

We then travelled to a small community five hundred kilometres away from Alice Springs called Lilla which consists of two families, less than twelve people. We were welcomed into their community with a traditional smoking ceremony. There, we visited the Watarrka Primary School, home to 15 students from surrounding communities who we played sport with and got to know quite well. After a sad goodbye to Lilla we left for Alice Springs. Here, we explored the MacDonnell Ranges and neighbouring water holes.

We stayed in The Earth Sanctuary for our last few nights. We learnt about the significant impacts on the environment and how easy it is to live a clean lifestyle. Every night we slept under the stars in swags. This entire experience was definitely a wakeup call for us all and a realisation that we are very lucky to go to school every day, live in a healthy and thriving community and have the opportunities we do.
