Food glorious food

Year 9's literary themed food stall - a big hit at the Writers Festival!

War on Waste

I’m hungry, there is nothing here to eat!

We have all heard that cry but Year 8 can solve that. As our last practical session on War on Waste students were presented a table of ingredients, staples we all find in our fridge and pantry along with pieces of meat from the freezer. With this and a partner they were to think of a quick meal they could make using only the ingredients in front of them.

As always we have amazed with what they produced. Pasta, rice and couscous bowls with vegetables, pizzas, vegetable parcels, crumbed chicken with homemade tomato sauce and burritos to name a few.

#FoodStall

Saturday saw the culmination of three weeks of hard work by the Year 9 #WeLoveFood class. To satisfactorily complete CAT2 students worked in pairs using the design process to produce a sweet and a savoury recipe for a food stall we held as part of the Literary Fest.

Keeping in line with the literary theme, the foods prepared were required to have a literary theme. Students prepared Miss Trunchbowl’s famous chocolate from Roald Dahl’s  ‘Matilda’. There were Naples- styled pizzas inspired by Elena Ferente’s, ‘My Brilliant Friend’ amongst many other delicious foods.

The stall was an undoubted success with all our produce being sold. Students have had the recipes they used as inspiration put together into a recipe book that will be available as a link in the next newsletter so keep your eyes out for it. Being able to pair the food with a hot chocolate or coffee from Ms Delahunty’s students, Felix Crowther and Gus Cowling was an added bonus.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work put in by the students and the dedication they showed in making sure they were able to present their best work possible. Many thanks to Hannah Bartley, Lucy Rachman, Emmi Schmiesser, Bellissa Cozzo and Milly Shell for volunteering their Saturday to run the stall.
