Women in Engineering: STEM Challenge

The Year 10 team

STEM Student Challenge - Melbourne University

This year we have had a fantastic team of Year 10 girls who have been diligently working on the “Amazing Spaghetti Machine Contest” run by the Engineering faculty at Melbourne University.

With a limited budget students had to create a Rube Goldberg type machine that would eventually squeeze out some toothpaste. The students were successful in creating a machine with a “Getting Ready in the Morning” theme which they designed and built themselves through many iterations.

Unfortunately, they did not win but it was a fantastic achievement to be there with a functioning machine on our first involvement with this competition. Lot’s of lessons were learned for next time!

Well done to Amelie Klienschmidt, Bronte Lemaire, Fiona Feng, Gloria Zhao, Fiona Feng, Vicky Zhang and Jane Dong.

And special thanks to Rohan Bevan and James Dutton for attending the event with the students.
