Leadership Conference

On Monday the 1st of February the Year Six students participated in a Leadership Conference at our school.

In the morning, Paul and Kelly from Cardinia Youth Services came to our Leadership Conference.  Young adults under 25 can come to their youth service building to learn and talk to the counsellors there.  They reminded us that we should always be resilient and push through. They helped us recognise our strengths and our friends let us know what traits they think we possess.  We really enjoyed their talk and that many other schools get the same fabulous opportunity that we did.

Mr Harris from D.E.L.T.A.R Motivation spoke to us about never giving up and trying our hardest.  He explained that superheroes don’t need powers.  We discussed what we want to be and what we were going to do.  He told us that if we have the right mindset then we can do anything.

Mike Spears is from America and was an NBL player.  He talked to us about never quitting because if you quit, doors of opportunity shut.  He said that quitting meant that you were more likely to quit and fail throughout your life.  When Mike was a boy, he was very poor and had a basketball coach that made him work very hard.  He thought about quitting yet his mate said no.  This advice made him very successful in life.  He taught us that ‘Exercise is a good thing.’

Mr Davie spoke to us about the topic ‘Passion’.  He told us about all of his passions; adventure, sport and most importantly, people.  We found this fascinating as we had never really thought about passions that much.  We also learnt never to give up and that there is always a way to fit passions in, no matter what.  We were also amazed at how he rode from Pakenham to Sydney to raise money for a rare disease.  He raised $15,000 and it took him 8 days as it was a 1200km trip.

When the bell went for our lunch, the sausages were already sizzling.  We all lined up at the gym for a sausage and some juice.  The sausages were nice and hot.  Some teachers and students played basketball against each other.  The game went back and forth, however, the teachers won.  The overall score was 19 to 10.  Even though we didn’t win, it didn’t matter because we tried.  After the basketball game, we had a Q&A with Mike Spears.

We all really enjoyed the Leadership conference and hope that the future Year Six students get the same experience.
