Year 12 Career Meetings
Throughout term 1, year 12 students have been undertaking one-on-one meetings with the college Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Karen Garton, to discuss their future career and pathway plans. While tertiary study, work or gap years may still feel a long way off for these year 12 students, the planning begins early with university course preferences needing to be created in August. The Career meetings are an opportunity for students to discuss their aspirations and discover resources that can assist them with their research so they are well prepared for their university or TAFE applications.
Year 10 ‘Employable Me’ Mock Interview Program
During Personal Learning classes this term, Year 10 students have been working on creating a resume they can use when applying for part-time work. One of the key things that employers tell us is that young people that have been employed part-time – in any capacity – are at an advantage over their counterparts when seeking full-time work. To prepare them for the employment process, our students have been participating in a mock interview program.
Each student has the opportunity to participate in an online mock interview with a career consultant from the Box Hill Skills and Jobs Centre. At the conclusion of their interview they are provided with feedback on how they presented with tips and suggestions for improvements. Written feedback from the career consultants is also provided for students and teachers.
