Student Leadership

On Wednesday 10 March, the Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia held a breakfast in honour of International Women’s Day which is celebrated on 8th March each year.

From MGSC, College Captains Lily West and Nisha Makam along with SRC President Mia Evans and Sustainability Team Member Tilde Verhoeven attended the breakfast.

It was a great morning, with many girls’ schools attending, allowing the leaders to interact with students from girls’ schools across the state.

The breakfast was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, a contrast to the usual venue at Parliament House. There was an array of food to enjoy while the students were presented with two guest speakers, well versed in the event of International Women’s Day.

The first guest speaker was Georgie Crozier, the Opposition Health Shadow Minister for Ambulance Services. She was a great leader who gave light to the inspiring women who hold powerful roles in our society.

Next was the keynote speaker, Dr Amy Brown, who spoke largely about feminism and her journey as a mother and author of the anthology of poems entitled ‘Neon Daze.’

She quoted many influential women, past and present, such as the likes of Virginia Woolf. The take-home message of her speech was to use our voice as leaders to enforce change and move towards equality in the future.

Ultimately, the morning was highly inspirational and an event that we would highly recommend to future leaders at MGSC.

A special thank you to Ms Harvey for accompanying the leaders.
