Swimming Carnival report from Sports Captains

On Wednesday 4 March was MGSC annual swimming carnival was held at Oakleigh Recreation Pool. It was a day full of fun and house spirit with people from every house dressing up in their colours and participating in swimming races and novelty activities.

Congratulations to Devon Engelhardt (13yo), Matilda Waugh (14yo), Shylo Lothian (15yo), Georgia Vicary (16yo), Georgia Macmillan (17yo) and Madeleine Corkhill (18yo) who were the overall champions in their respective age groups! We also had Melba in the 13 year old age group having the highest accumulation of points, Mackellar for 14, 15, 16 year old age groups had the highest accumulation of points, Jackson 17 year olds were the highest and then Melba 18 year olds stood on top. As well as a lot of swimming on the day, fun activities were also held which gained participants points such as grass relays, standing water basketball, diving and more. The SRC committee ran face painting with colored zinc for students who wanted to get more into the house spirit.

The whole school then watched our House captains and teachers get involved in some races. The senior captains participated in the boat race down the pool with the Jackson leaders coming out on top. The staff and student 4 x 50m freestyle relay also took place. Unfortunately the teachers just missed out on first place with Melba coming through and winning in the last leg of the race. We loved seeing all our fellow year 12 students really getting into the  house spirit with amazing costumes in their House colours. Overall the swimming carnival was a great day and the overall winner for the day will be announced at the assembly next term!

Lastly we would like to thank Oakleigh Recreation Pool for hosting our swimming carnival; all students from years 7-12 who attended; all staff and all the House leaders; Ms Parker and the PE teachers for the planning and organising for the day.
