School News
Pre-Primary ~ Room 6
This term, we have been exploring community workers and last week, we had a Hospital Familiarisation incursion. We explored what it would be like to visit a hospital and had the opportunity to role play and operate on life size dolls.
Last week, we also celebrated Harmony Week and had a lot of fun celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day on Wednesday. On Thursday, we had Catalina’s mum, Andrea come in to read us a book in Spanish and on Friday we listened to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star in Noongar and had some of our older indigenous students come and help us dot paint some wooden blocks.
We also now have a deluxe café to play in. We purchased our café from proceeds of our Moneysmart grant.
On Tuesday, we visited Gilberts to explore goods and services and to work out what possible products and/or service we could produce in Term 2, as part of a whole school project.
We are all working hard and enjoying our first term in Pre-primary.
Room 3 - Year 4/5 Assembly
This week is Book Week and our theme is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds’. Room 3 realised that, although we can’t travel internationally, books can help us travel all throughout time and space! Our assembly took the audience on a journey using different genres of books. We can use books to travel back to Ancient Greece, solve mysteries with the Famous Five, go on adventures to mythical places or even learn new skills that make us feel like we’re in Italy or France. Where will reading take you this year?
Room 11
During Harmony week we have been celebrating the different cultures in our class. On Thursday, we had a visit from Florian who is from Germany. He read us a story in German and was able to translate it very quickly back into English! He then showed us some photos of where he is from in Germany. It was amazing to see and hear a story in a different language! Thank you to Florian for taking the time to share your culture with us!

Gilberts Excursion - PP - Year 3
On Tuesday, our Pre-primary to Year 3 classes visited Gilberts on an excursion. This excursion was organised to investigate how Gilberts’ market and display products and what products they sell. This is part of our Moneysmart grant, as we want our students to see how money practices and goods/services have changed over time.
In Term 2, as part of our Moneysmart grant, each class will be producing a good or offering a service as a school wide fund raising initiative.
We thank Gilberts for their generosity. They arranged food for the children to trial as they move around the shop and gave each child a bag of goodies to take home.
A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers.
Shops ~ PP - Year 3 Classes
As part of our whole school, Moneysmart grant, our PP- Yr. 3 classes have been given a budget of $100 to purchase items to create a shop in their classrooms.
We have cafe's, ice-cream shops, general shops, potion shops and fruit and vegetable shops in our various classrooms.
We feel our shops will help our students’ role play handling money in different scenarios in a fun and interactive way.
Visit From Fremantle Council
As part of our Moneysmart grant, we invited Councilor Jenny Archibald to come to our school and talk to our Yr. 1 to Yr. 6 students, about how goods and services, money/bartering systems and sustainable practices have changed over time.
Councillor Archibald also explained her role and how Fremantle Council has worked to support shop keepers, due to changes such as increased online buying.
Jenny also spoke about how the Council attracts people into Fremantle, how shop keepers attract people into their shops and the improvements that can be made to the City with people visiting and spending money at various businesses.
We thank Jenny for her support.
Attendance Matters
Many thanks to the parents who inform the school of student absences.
This can be done in a number of ways
- Using the online absence form - https://whitegumvalleyps.wa.edu.au/information/online-absent-form/
- Emailing or sending a note to the classroom teacher directly
- Calling the school on 9435 6900
- Informing the classroom teacher face-to-face.
It is important that we are made aware of a reason for absence as our records are official to the department.
