Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to everyone who was able to support our Book Parade this week.

The books and costumes were fantastic.

Ms Tingle did a great job running the proceedings.

Next Thursday from about 2:10pm we will have our school Colour Run and would like to invite parents, friends and family to support our students through sponsoring per lap or making a donation. Monies can be sent in next week, week one of next term or through depositing into the school account. Spot prizes will be awarded for sponsorship monies returned along with a pizza lunch to the PP-3 and 4-6 classes who raise the most money.

Congratulations to Room 3 on their wonderful assembly. Everyone did a great job!

Mrs Foster, staff and parent helpers put on a very successful Swimming carnival which was won this year by Parmelia, for the first time! What an effort put in by all the students especially as our swimming lessons are not scheduled until June.

Our students across Years PP-Year 3 along with teachers and parents travelled to Gilberts as part of our Financial Literacy program. Students were engaged with staff looking at how cash and cards are used, pricing and selling of stock. Our thanks to Gilberts for their support and feeding everyone on the day as well! Gilberts supports schools in the District. Shoppers have the option of nominating a local school with a percentage of sales going into each school’s fund.

The Pre Primary students had an incursion to experience what hospitals are like. This Hospital Familiarisation program has proven to be very popular in the schools that apply to be involved.

Our school was successful applying for a grant in this Olympic year to be matched up with an Olympian who will over two visits to the school work with our students on RESILIENCE. The Australian Olympic Committee and Education Department Curriculum Support Branch made this opportunity available.

Students in Years 3 and 5 undertook some system testing activities for NAPLAN which will be undertaken in May. A background brochure has gone home. Parents who would like to withdraw their child for some or all of the tests are asked to let their teacher know so that a form can be sent home.

The School Board and P&C had meetings recently.

At our P&C meeting a new Sustainability sub-committee was formed, funds raised at our Election stalls discussed, a canteen committee competition to name our canteen was initiated, funds allocated towards icy poles for the Colour Run, discussed what Mothers-Day fundraising could look like, viewed a sample of a new possible supplier for uniforms and ‘I love the Valley’ shirts, discussed a possible air conditioner for the canteen, heard about a range of Grants being applied for and discussed the 120th anniversary Cook Book.

As you can see our P&C is very involved in supporting the school in a number of ways!

At our Board meeting members tabled the annual school budget, reviewed the new Statement of Expectations which all schools are required to have signed, heard about a number of professional Development activities that staff have undertaken including leadership opportunities, viewed the most recent one line budget update, addressed pillars 1 and 2 of the school Business Plan as an update on where we are at with data collection and analysis, updated our yearly calendar, discussed how as a Board we can share what we are and what we do with the school community, heard about the work of the P&C, discussed what we do as an Education Department with gender equity, bias and protective behaviours, and further looked at aspects of our 2020 School Survey.

As a Board we have agreed to place more information in newsletters and on our website to share what we do, with the community.

Students in Year 6 played a soccer match against staff and parents on Friday after school. The canteen was open for ice creams and pizza. What a great way to finish the week off. Thank you to everyone concerned for organising and participating in the event!

The school Term concludes next Thursday, 1 April. School will reopen on Monday, 19  April for Staff. Students will commence on Tuesday, 20 May.
