Little Athletics Victoria, Southern Metro Regional Track and Field Championships
Duncan Mackinnon Reserve, Murrumbeena
February 27-28, 2021
Jesse won all four of his chosen events to automatically qualify for the state championships.
- 800m - First
Jesse has only just chosen this distance. Being a long race (twice around the track), it requires some strategy. His best before today was 3min 01 sec.
Jesse ran a PB of 2min 41 secs, which was 20 seconds better than previous.
A boy from Berwick who won a recent state 800m race did it in 2min 46secs, so Jesse was trying to see if he could beat that time – which he did! He will meet this boy in the State champs. Jesse ran 4 seconds faster than in the regionals to hit another personal best of 2 min 37.50 seconds and won by just 0.14s.
- 200m - First
Jesse ran a PB of 31.33 secs
This is probably his strongest event, as the longer the race the better he is as has good endurance to keep a sprint going. with a time of 31.36secs
- 100m - First
Jesse ran a PB of 15.34 secs
A boy from Sandringham was actually in the lead at the 70m mark but Jesse pushed harder and got him right on the line to register a dead heat!
This is going to be a close race at the States.
- Discus - First
Jesse loves throwing a discus and has been working on a full 360 degree spin to get better momentum.
Jesse’s best was 23.71m so when another boy threw 25.15m, Jesse thought to himself – “oh no, that is a big throw, how will I beat that?”
So he got into the ring and said to himself – “ I am going to throw the biggest throw I can do” and threw a PB of 25.21m to win by 6 cm
Little Athletics Victoria, State Track and Field Championships
Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park Lake
March 13-14, 2021
800m - First
Jesse likes to lead in this race, but he couldn’t believe how fast everyone went out at the start, so he was a fair way back. At the half way mark he was fourth, but way back from the three leaders.
With 300. To go he began speeding up and took the lead by the last 100m.
As expected, it was a sprint finish between him and the boy from Berwick.
Jesse won by 0.14s.
200m - First
After the first 100m Jesse was a fair way behind in third, but this is when he speeds up, overtakes them all and finishes strongly.
100m – eighth
Tough race with some fast athletes.
Discus - second
Jesse put in a big first throw of 25.86m, which again was a pb. Jesse was in the lead right up until the last throw when a boy from Brimbank throws 30.20m. Wow, what a throw!
Jesse now has one throw left to beat it. He know he has to throw bigger than ever – and throws another pb of 27.27m.
