Calrossy through to the Grand Final of Douglas Shield Cricket
A wet pitch meant a delayed start to the semi final of the Interschool's Douglas Shield Cricket in Tamworth on Tuesday, March 9.
Play got underway just after 11am, with the game restricted to 40 overs a side. St Phillips Christian College from Cessnock won the toss and sent the Calrossy First X1 into bat. Openers Jack Hamilton and Matt Holmes settled the home sides nerves withstanding the fast paced openers before they eventually drew the wicket with Matt Holmes out in a close LBW call.
Jack, Will Aitken and Sam Holmes went onto build the base of a great score. Jack stumped just shy of the half century at 47 and Will and Sam notched up 20 and 28 respectively. Jock Smith and Doug Brissett brought home the innings, not out on 15 each, with some huge hitting over the boundary for Doug.
Calrossy went into the break 8/161.
In reply, St Phillips lost a few quick wickets before they dug in against the young Calrossy team. But the homeside brought it home in a close finish. Ryan Stewart with 4/17 off 8 overs; Tom Holmes 2/16 off five; Matt Holmes 3/10 off 3.3 overs.
Calrossy winners... with 19 runs to go and 6.3 overs to spare.
Congratulations to this young representative side which are now facing a long bus trip south to Parkes on Wednesday, to meet The Riverina Anglican College in Parkes on Thursday in the final.
It is the first time in 10 years Calrossy has made this final... and it was great to see some old boys on the side line in support at the semi! Check out the photo gallery for more images from the semi final win at https://thehub.calrossy.nsw.edu.au/homepage/2562
Still on cricket and Matt Holmes and Jack Hamilton have been named in the AICES Open Boys Cricket team which will play in the CIS championships.
Calrossy cricket continues to be on a winning role with the Year 7/8 Blue team claiming victory against Farrer Rust in the Grand Final on Saturday 13th March.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl Calrossy was off to a great start with Georgia Davidson collecting a wicket off the first ball of the innings.
After having Farrer 2-0, Farrer settled in putting on 20 runs before loosing their 3rd wicket. Farrer went on to score 48 runs off their 20 overs.
Wickets were shared amongst Georgia Davidson, Jamie Grant, Jake Tankard and Thomas Holmes. There was some sharp catching by Will Fahey, Doug Brissett and
also Jamie Grant with a caught & bowled.
With four wickets down Calrossy passed Farrer’s total in the 14th over after a solid batting display by Jake Tankard (14) and Will Fahey (20 not out).
