Book Week Wrap Up

Thank you to all of our families who participated in our Book Week activities. The students who dressed up had a wonderful time at the parade at Lower Primary and the Upper Primary students used their detective skills as they completed their Scavenger Hunt. Our author visit was enjoyed by all as Dee White shared with us her process for creating stories and the many animals she has at home that feature in her books. The feedback she provided on our students was fantastic. She was really excited by their level of engagement and the questions they had prepared for her.

Banyule Nillumbik Tech School

Our Banyule Nillumbik Tech School Student Ambassadors are gearing up for a busy day this coming Friday. They will be coming together with the other Student Ambassadors to plan this year Maker Faire which is happening in Term 4. Concord School as had a team of students present and run activities at the 2017 and 2018 Maker Faires and we are looking forward to putting together a team for the 2019 incarnation. The following YouTube clips show footage from the first two Maker Faires and give you an idea of what occurs on the day. Primary School students from schools in the Banyule & Nillumbik areas are invited to attend workshops across the day as the Secondary Students present and share their activity. It is a great opportunity for our Secondary students to show off their learning.

Secondary 9/10 Showcase

On Wednesday evening our Secondary 9/10 students invited their families to come and share in their learning and achievements so far this year. Our amazing SRC reps Lachlan, Luca & Travis opened the evening with a wonderful speech and welcomed everyone to the special occasion.

Thank you to all of our families who attended, it was wonderful to see the pride on our students faces as they showed their guests around. Thank you also to our Secondary 9/10 team who created the evening and cooked up a storm on the BBQs, allowing our families to chat and mingle before the evening got underway.

New Resource From DET To Support Learning At Home

DET has released an online resource to support families with building numeracy and mathematics skills at home. The following link will take you to the Numeracy Guide and the page allocated to Numeracy at home. There is a short video explaining how numeracy and mathematics are part of our students lives at home. As you scroll down the page there is information on how to help with homework, how you can help build numeracy skills and also some information on busting some common mathematical myths.

Take some time to look at the information provided by DET on http://numeracyguidedet.global2.vic.edu.au/numeracy-at-home/

Our final newsletter this term will include highlights from all of our sections across the school, so I will take this opportunity to wish everybody a safe and happy holiday. I hope you get out and enjoy the lovely spring weather!
