Tax File Number
Year 12 students are reminded that they cannot enrol in a CSP (Commonwealth Supported Place) university course next year without a Tax File Number (TFN). Students who do not have one are reminded to apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office.

Deakin University
- New Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours)
Create the smart systems of the future. You will acquire specialised skills in computing, robotics and cyberphysical systems, in preparation for a career as an innovative software engineer capable of developing the smart devices and systems of the future.
From Trimester 1 2017, students will be able to study the four year Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours). This innovative course will focus on creating the smart software and systems of the future. The VCE prerequisites are: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 20 in one of Maths: Mathematical Methods (any) or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.

- Deakin University Accelerate Program
Deakin Accelerate is a distinctive VCE higher education program that allows students to study two first-year university subjects during Year 12. Studying one subject per trimester, this selective program gives students a head-start into university studies and also provides a potential boost to their all-important ATAR score. Besides the challenge of taking on a university subject, this subject will also count as part of the VCE and contribute towards the ATAR as the fifth or sixth subject.

The Melbourne Campus at Burwood is Deakin’s thriving metropolitan Campus, attracting more than 26 000 students, and 1500 staff. This Campus has a contemporary arts building, the prestigious Deakin University Art Gallery, Deakin Motion.Lab – Australia’s largest motion capture facility, an extensive Library, a gym and sports hall, restaurants, bar, internet café, health care services and campus retail.
Deakin’s Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds is Deakin’s second-largest campus and is home to Deakin’s Medical School and the Geelong Technology Precinct (GTP). It has many services and facilities including lecture theatres, library, computer laboratories, health care services, gym, sports hall, and retail and food outlets. There is also on-campus accommodation for over 700 students at this campus.
Deakin’s Geelong Waterfront Campus is located on the foreshore of Corio Bay in the central business district of Geelong. With more than 4330 students, campus features include state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design (CAD) laboratories and design studios, a cafeteria, library, and bookshop. The redevelopment of the Dennys Lascelles Building has increased the capacity of the Waterfront Campus, allowing the University to provide an expanded range of courses.
Deakin’s Warrnambool Campus is set on the banks of the picturesque Hopkins River, close to local surf beaches and popular tourist attractions, with all the facilities of a regional centre. It offers a friendly, close-knit community with an on-campus population of around 1100. On-campus facilities include a comprehensive library, excellent teaching and learning spaces, health care services, café, gym, bookshop, social areas, basketball, netball and tennis courts, and a golf course.

LaTrobe University
VCE Plus is an opportunity for high achieving VCE students to complete two first year university subjects and have them recognised as part of their VCE. Students enrolled in VCE Plus choose a pair of first year university subjects to study whilst completing Year 12 (one subject per semester). VCE Plus is offered at all La Trobe campuses and subjects are delivered online, face-to-face, or a combination of both.

Monash University
- Changes to Monash Psychology and Nutrition Degrees
- Psychology - The Bachelor of Psychological Science Advanced (Honours) has undergone a name change and will now be titled Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), and the change has also been made in VTAC.
The key changes include the fact that more places will be available, and an estimated ATAR of 85+ is expected.
Entry to the honours component of the four-year course is guaranteed on successful completion of the degree and obtaining a minimum 70% average in four specific core units. Should students not satisfy this requirement or decide not to continue with an honours year they will be able to exit with a Bachelor of Psychological Science.
Should students not meet the academic requirement to continue to the honours year, they may be eligible to apply for other fourth-year psychology programs, in particular, the Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Monash University.

- Nutrition – There have been a few minor changes to the prerequisites for the Bachelor of Nutrition Science, including a lower English study score requirement.
VCE Pre-requisites: English: Units 3 and 4; a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL, and Chemistry: Units three and four; a study score of at least 25 in Chemistry.
There will also be subject bonuses offered for the following VCE subjects (to an overall maximum of six points):
- A study score of 25 in Biology or 30 in Chemistry equals two aggregate points per study.
- A study score of 30 in Biology or 35 in Chemistry equals four aggregate points per study.
- A study score of 30 in one but no more than one of Food and Technology, Health and Human Development or Physical Education equals 1 aggregate point per study.

- New Bachelor of International Business Double Degrees
Students can now combine the Bachelor of International Business with a Bachelor of Business or a Bachelor of Arts, allowing them the opportunity to complete two degrees in just three years rather than the standard four.
Available arts majors in a double combination:

- International studies
- Politics

- New Business Analytics Major
Offered under the Bachelor of Commerce, this new study area will teach students how to pull data from various sources and how to visualise it, model it and learn about the world around them. It will give students a solid background in all aspects of data analysis.
Demand for graduates with skills in statistics, computing and data analysis is growing across all industries. Business analytics graduates can work in finance, marketing, human resources, sport, fashion, media, education, government and law.
- Monash University - Extension Studies
Monash Extension Studies allows high achieving Year 12 students to get a taste of university before finishing school - and be rewarded for it. Students complete a pair of first year university subjects as part of their final year school studies, allowing them to extend and enhance their learning in an area of interest. Students also received credit towards their ATAR.
RMIT
- Live Production and Technical Services
The Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services focuses on giving students highly practical live production and audio-visual skills that enable them to undertake a wide range of jobs in a diverse and growing industry. Students learn a range of skills including set-up, operation and maintenance of lighting, sound, presentation and TV equipment. Applications should be made through VTAC, and there is an interview as part of the selection criteria. Find out more at Live Production and Technical Services
- RMIT University – VCE Extend
RMIT’s VCE Extend allows Year 12 students to undertake university subjects while completing their VCE. These courses are VCAA-accredited towards VCE results and students may be eligible for credit in a related RMIT program.
Students will get a taste of university life, they attend lectures and study on campus with full access to all the services and facilities enjoyed by RMIT students. VCE Extend subjects are taught at the City campus and are counted towards students VCE and provide a boost to their ATAR. There are no fees or HECS for our VCE extension studies. - New Science Majors
Two new majors are being introduced to the Bachelor of Science in 2017: Data Science and Environmental Engineering Systems. Find out more about all 41 majors at Science Majors
- New Core Subjects in Commerce
Students commencing the Bachelor of Commerce in 2017 will be required to complete two additional compulsory subjects: Accounting Reports and Analysis, and Principles of Finance. Find out more at Bachelor of Commerce

ACU
Year 12 students applying for the Early Achievers’ Program (EAP) at ACU are reminded that applications close on Monday 17 October 2016, and offers will be made by the end of November 2016. Please note that failure to meet all the requirements for the EAP will result in not being considered for the program.

Holmesglen
The Diploma Screen and Media (Radio and Television) is a practical introduction to radio and television presenting, and a pathway for students to try their hand at media production. In summary –
- This is a one-year course based at the Chadstone Campus
- Students produce a magazine style show for Channel 31 called HIT TV
- Students produce radio shows in the Holmesglen Radio Studio
- This is a highly practical course offering experience both on air and behind the scenes
Pathways for graduates include –
- Advanced Diploma in Radio at Australian Film Television and Radio School
- Bachelor of Screen at Holmesglen Institute (Waverley Campus)
- Bachelor of Media or Film at Deakin University, RMIT, Swinburne and La Trobe University
