Acting Principal's Report

Welcome

The next few weeks will see some very exciting happenings at Concord School. Today’s addition of the newsletter will outline how we are going to celebrate book week, ask for your opinions during parent opinion survey times and offer you free tickets to the upcoming Carlton verses St Kilda game. This is where you will find all the up to date information about our school so do make sure you have a browse through some of the articles.

Changes to Concord School staffing

Mia Rigoni and Anthony Brown will be on leave until 2020. Kellie Sterich will be working in PMJ for the remainder of the year. Kellie worked on our Lower Primary Campus during 2018 and comes in with a wealth of experience working with students from Concord School. We are very fortunate to have such a quality person back at Concord.

DET 2019 Parent Opinion Survey-Please let us know what you think

Don’t forget, if you are one of the randomly selected families to have received the 2019 Parent Opinion Survey from ORIMA please be sure to complete it before Sunday. There were a total of 76 surveys sent out to families through email as it is now an electronic survey. The school really appreciates your feedback and would like to act on the information presented so that we can work together to ensure that our students can be ‘the best they can be’.

Concord Developed Parent Survey

This is also a reminder that we have sent a more robust survey to all of our families and would love to hear from you on some specific areas as well. Earlier in the year we sent out a survey on communication and had 136 responses. This has helped us to develop processes for change. It would be wonderful if we could gain as much insight from our families this time around.

Book Week Celebrations

From 17-23 August 2019 we celebrate CBCA Book Week and Concord School plans to host some dress up days and scavenger hunts.

Throughout the year, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s book world to bring images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults.

The CBCA is a not for profit, volunteer run organisation that aims to engage the community with literature for young Australians.

To celebrate literature and to encourage a love of literacy we will be hosting some events during the week. On August the 23rd at 9:30am the Lower Primary students will be having a dress up day where we encourage the students to dress up as their favourite book character. We invite parents to attend this event held at our Watsonia Campus. Later that day we will also be holding a dress up day for our Upper Primary students at our Bundoora Campus. This will commence at 11:00am and we also invite families to attend.

Throughout the week several festivities will take place and we will make sure to post the celebrations through our Facebook page and on Compass. We hope that you can join us to celebrate this wonderful event.

Great Opportunity to Attend AFL for Free

Sometimes life can be kismet and all your passions can collide. That has certainly happened for me this week as Suzanne Bates has passed on her communications with Claire Castle the Community, Diversity & Inclusion Officer of the Carlton Football Club. I am personally passionate about inclusion and of course the mighty Blues, so I am really pleased that my team has extended this offer to our families and friends. I know I will be there cheering the team Sunday week and I hope to see some Concord families there as well. Please see below the invitation from the Carlton Football Club.

The Carlton Football Club has invited all Concord families to our final home game of the year as we take on the Saints at the MCG on Saturday 17 August.

We have extended an offer for all families to receive a free family ticket (for up to 6 people) to our final home game of the year and the chance to join us on ground as the players run out before the game.

To redeem tickets, individuals will need to register at the following link and select the number of tickets they would like. Registrations will close on 14 August. Tickets will be sent to registered families on 15 August.
