Choir Sings at Opening of the General Assembly for the Presbyterian Church

Letter of thanks to Luke Batty  (our Music Director) from the Moderator of the PCV:

Everyone at last Monday evening's Assembly Service was so blessed!! People were talking all week about the amazing singing we were privileged to hear on Monday night: the musically illiterate among us simply rejoicing that our hearts were lifted in joyous praise and worship; those who know about such things commenting as well, on the clear diction, the harmonious blending of the voices and the maturity of the contribution made by the young men. All this, of course, reflects the talented, God-honouring leadership you bring to your conducting of the choir.

Thank you so much.

The Victorian School of Languages is very pleased to advise you that Kayle Dharmadasa, a student from your school who is studying at the VSL by Distance Education, has been awarded the Best Effort Award in Latin Yr 7.

This award recognises that Kayle Dharmadasa has maintained consistent effort and a very high level of achievement across all areas of the Distance Education course in 2017 with the Victorian School of Languages.

Congratulations for all the hard work and fantastic achievement you've earned Kayle!

Congratulations Lachlan

Lachlan Ahearn (Year 9B) who is with the 1st Mount Waverley Scout Troop, has earned the Australian Scout Medallion.

To attain the top award in each of the five Sections in Scouting reflects initiative in tackling this challenge, sustained effort over many months and years, plus self-discipline, teamwork, and leadership.

Only a small percentage reach this level. These are the top achievers among Scouting's 47 million members globally.

Well done Lachlan!

Christmas in a Shoebox

Each class in the school has been busy buying, sorting and packing special items to be delivered to children overseas as part of Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project.

It’s not too late to send in donations of new items for this special project. Please give them to your child’s class teacher or to the School Office.

You may also like to encourage your child to do some extra “jobs” at home to contribute to the postage cost of $10 for each box.

This is a really practical way that we can share God’s love with other children.

The deadline for collection is the end of October.

Popcorn Plays

This Saturday (28th October – tomorrow!) from 5:30 – 7pm the Junior Drama League will be performing in a night called “Popcorn plays”. This involves student performers from year 7-9, with tech and design managed by students from year 9 and 10. They will be performing two short plays: “Anne-arky” (a look at the chaos happening behind the scenes of a school play) and “The Absolutely Insidious and Utterly Terrifying Truth about Cat Hair” (a play about cat hair attempting to take over the world. Yes. Cat hair.)

The students have worked really hard and are excited to perform. We would love for everyone to come along and see the performances, to encourage the kids and appreciate their talents. For those of you who came to the “Cake here with Shakespeare” show earlier this year, this one is the equivalent for our lower secondary students. Don’t miss it! Tickets are $5 child, $10 adult, and are available from https://www.trybooking.com/SLUP or at the door.

Garden Club

The vegie garden has suddenly sprung to life with an abundance of spinach and silverbeet , lettuce, spring onions and delicious peas being harvested now. Our raspberry plants will soon be producing berries, as will our broad beans. Recently added to the garden are beans, tomatoes, basil and corn.

Please come and see what produce is available on Tuesdays after school. All proceeds from sales go towards buying soil and plants for the vegetable garden with a tithe going towards TEAR in the form of $10 Vegetable garden gift card. So far we have bought 3 this year- soon to be 4!

Prayer Group

Wednesdays at 8:45am

This year the St Andrews Parent Prayer Group will be meeting every Wednesday morning at 8:45am in the meeting room next to the school office.

The St Andrews Prayer Group would like to welcome and invite all parents to come along and join in prayer, with other parents for the needs of the St Andrews school community.

It is a great opportunity to join in fellowship with other parents.

For specific prayer requests, there is a prayer request box at the front reception desk for you to put your request in if you are unable to join us.

We are greatly blessed at St Andrews to have the opportunity to gather together for prayer. As Christians we are called to pray, and we encourage parents to join us. Be reassured that you don’t have to pray out loud if you are not comfortable in doing so.
