Principal's Report

Congratulations to our Year 12 students who are progressing through the VCE exams with calm and attention to study. We continue to be very proud of their diligence.

2020 Planning

In preparation for our 2020 professional learning and curriculum review the leadership team have been reflecting on the strategic plan and developing the 2020 Annual Implementation Plan. Our key goals are:

  • To optimise the learning achievement growth of each student through differentiation.
  • To establish a consistent level of excellence in teaching and learning across the college. The teaching and learning framework has whole school agreement of its essential elements, including the use of data, to be implemented consistently in all classrooms to ensure we are equipping global citizens.
  • To optimise wellbeing for every student and colleague.

The Department of Education and Training resources based on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model are useful for this work.

If you are interested in understanding the model in detail please follow this link: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/classrooms/Pages/learnspecnavigatevtlm.aspx

Another key aspect of our work in 2020 is the review of our current curriculum. The following information from the NSW Curriculum Review is useful for this work, Please see the links below for further information.

Presentation Night

A reminder that all are very welcome to attend the 2019 Presentation Night Student Awards and Performances on Tuesday 26th November from 7pm – 8.45pm in the Plaza Ballroom, 191 Collins Street, Melbourne. Periods 1 to 3 will run as normal with an early dismissal at 1.05pm so that staff, students and families can prepare for the evening.

Student Success

Congratulations to our Year 11 student Sabriah Peterson who for the past seven years has been collecting donations and holding market stalls to support the Sunshine Kindergarten on Slum Island Dalah Yangon in Burma. Sabriah was only eleven when she began this work and has shown great compassion. As a community we are proud of Sabriah’s philanthropy, kindness and determined commitment to helping others in all areas of her life. Sabriah’s mum, Dem, is well known to many as a key volunteer in the MGC second hand uniform shop every Thursday, another example of “the apple never falling far from the tree”!

Congratulations also to Lucy Skelton for organising “Do It In A Dress Day!” on Friday 8 November and raising over $1000. Sponsored staff and many MGC community members donated to further girls’ access to education in third world countries where free, universal education is not the norm. Many can still be involved by donating to our team https://www.onegirl.org.au/fundraisers/melbournegirlscollege

Finally, enormous thanks and congratulations to the Philanthropy Team lead by Ella Bichler, Scarlett Cuthbertson, Hannah Benhassine, Harriet Dennis and supported by Ms. Tudor who raised over $6,600 for the World Vision 40 hour famine initiative. The funds  will be used to provide education and counselling for over 900 children for a year who are living in refugee camps.
