Dear Collingwood College School Community,
Let me begin by thanking everyone for their wonderful contribution to our children’s school. Everything we do at Collingwood College is aimed at providing our students with the best opportunities available. As we look back at 2016, we can be very pleased with all that we have achieved. The Primary component of our school has continued to grow in every sense and the precious contribution of the parents, staff and teachers must be acknowledged.
It really is amazing to think the 2016 year could disappear so quickly. I hope it has something to do with the fact that our students are receiving a high-quality education and achieving outstanding results across the entire curriculum.
My first year at Collingwood College has been a delight. I have been able to share in so many events and activities that are so very unique to our terrific and vibrant school. From classroom meetings to lantern walks, school productions to orchestra ensembles, to spring fair, camps and excursions. These are just a few of the many activities that have not only brought our community together but have provided fantastic educational opportunities along the way.
A standout for me in 2016 has been the progress every student in Primary has been making. Our students are making massive leaps and bounds in their literacy, numeracy and social learning. This learning could not happen without the support of dedicated teachers and education support staff, committed parents and family members. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the ‘journey’ that your child has travelled over the year. Think of the growth that they have under gone and the skills that they may have gained. I encourage you to celebrate this learning and growth together – no matter how small you may perceive it to be.
I would personally like to thank you for your ongoing support of Collingwood College. I look forward to seeing you again safe and well next year.
Warm regards,
Sam Luck

Dear Families and Carers,
Another amazing year has passed and with it we have experienced so many great successes. I am finishing the year very proud of all the secondary students and the contributions they have made to the continued progress of Collingwood College. The young people at our school never cease to amaze me with their dedication, work efficacy, creativity, kindness, politeness, maturity, respect and all round happiness! The holidays are just beginning, yes I am tired, I am looking forward to a rest, but I can not wait for day 1 next year to work with them again.
The focus on schools data at the moment is on improvements, value adding and enrichment. Repeating the same results year in year out is not seen as a measure of success. Continuous improvement is highly valued. In the secondary school, I can promise, that is what we are showcasing in all of our data.
The year 12 results have again improved and are heading in the right upward direction. The average study score of 28 is an improvement on 2015 and is a strong score. Scores are important as they lead our young people to their chosen pathways, but we are a school community that embraces and supports all learners, as a result we have a rich and diverse learning culture to be proud of.
The year 7 and 9 NAPLAN results in September are some of the best this school has ever recorded. This is built from a strong foundation of literacy, numeracy and excellent teaching throughout our P-12 programs.
I think what I am most pleased with this year is the survey data that shows our students are connected with the school. They tell us time and time again that they are happy, and that they feel like they are in an excellent learning environment. As a leader in the school this really is rewarding to hear.
The excellent results our students are producing would not happen without the amazing support we receive from parents, carers and the community. This is what is so special about Collingwood, our great community. I would like to thank parents and carers for the constant support and encouragement around attendance, effort, behaviour and achievement. This support really does matter.
I would like to acknowledge the teachers at our school. I do not think I am exaggerating when I say they are some of the best in the state. They are creative, patient, dedicated, work endless hours and never lose the focus that 'students' are the most valuable part of our school. I wish them a restful and relaxing holiday. They really deserve it this year.
Finally I would like to thank the support staff at our school. They are often the people that you deal with the most as a parent. The office staff, student support staff, wellbeing team, grounds & maintenance, IT, music teachers and the lovely Alina. Without their constant support the teachers and I would not be able to do our jobs. The success we have experienced would not be possible.
It is a long summer. It starts with a busy celebratory period for most and moves into a long and restful break. I hope students continue to be curious and learn as the summer weeks pass. I know as a parent it can be hard work keeping our children occupied, my own little girl announced she was 'extremely' bored on day one!
I always wish for everyone to return to school safe and well with lots of stories of how much fun they had over the holidays. Please have a safe and happy holiday break and let's make sure we all return well.
