School for Student Leadership

They’re coming home!

Jolanta, Jordan, Sarah and Vinh from year nine have spent the last term on campus at the Gnurad-Gundidj School for Student Leadership, near Colac in southwest regional Victoria. During their time there, a major focus for the students was on developing a Community Learning Project (CLP). The CLP is a project designed by the student to benefit their local community. It is a big undertaking for the students and will require dedication, organisation, teamwork and leadership skills when they implement their project later this year.

On Friday, 22 June, the four students presented their CLP proposal to peers and guests. Their CLP, titled ‘Danger in St Albans!’ aims to tackle the issue of rubbish, particularly hazardous waste in the St Albans community. The presentation was informative, creative, inspiring and humerous! The students were also awarded a certificate in recognition of their participation in the program.

All four students found the School for Student Leadership program challenging and extremely rewarding. They described how the experience has changed them as people, exposing them to new ideas, challenges and friendships.

We look forward to welcoming Jolanta, Jordan, Sarah and Vinh back to St Albans next term and will be eagerly anticipating the rollout of their CLP.
