Discovering the world around us.

SCIENCE CONEPTS FOR THE MONTH OF JULY

It’s been a big month in Science and STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics and Medicine). Our Scientists have been learning about the basic concepts of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science to better understand the world around them.

  • Year 7 students have just finished their unit on classification
  • Year 8 students have been using the microscopes to observe the littlest things in life, Cells.
  • Year 9 students are working on electrical circuits using a computer simulation Tinkercad.
  • Year 10 students are discovering that motion of an object can be mapped on a graph and can be analyzed using calculations.

STEAMM 9/10: Engineering Design Process

Our STEAMM Students are exploring the engineering design process by creating machines that can make something move by pressing a button.

Inventor of the month: VCE Biology Year 12

Year 12 Biology Scientists have been completing their Unit 3 & 4, Area of Study 3 Practical investigation over the last few weeks. This task allowed our students to showcase the inquiry skills they have learnt through years 7 to 12 by creating and running their own experiment. Our students used an array of equipment to observe starch production in bok choy deprived of carbon dioxide, found the optimum pH of the enzyme trypsin and excluded Ecoli bacterial growth using a range of household items.

Exclusion of Ecoli around purple and blue mouthwash
Exclusion of Ecoli around Tea tree and eucalyptus oil
Increase of Ecoli bacterial growth in household spices
