News and Notices

From the Principal

Welcome to Term 3 Everyone. Can you believe it is August already? We have another busy term ahead with Education Outside the Classroom a large focus for this term. We are also hoping to do something special for Tongan Language Week and Maori Language Week. Our theme for the term is The Earth and Beyond which is always exciting.

We would like to welcome Ella, Abigail and Deijar to Waahi Koru and Leyton to Waahi Pakari. We are delighted to have you at RidgeView School.

Mrs Charmaine Foster

Charmaine has made the decision to retire at the end of this term. She is going to spend more time up North with her partner, but will be available to do some relieving for us. Many of you will have children who started their schooling with Charmaine and know how much she is loved. She will be missed by all of us.

We are going to hold a special assembly on Wednesday 29 September at 9am to thank Charmaine for her contribution to RidgeView school and will follow this with a morning tea. We would love as many of you as possible to come along and join our celebration.

Three Way Conferences

On Wednesday 25 August we will be holding three-way conferences at school. This is a chance for students, parents and teachers to share achievements and talk about how students are tracking against their goals.

School will close at 2pm on this day. After-school care will run from 2pm.

Teacher-Only Day

Friday 27 August is a teacher-only day. School will be closed on this day as staff begins to unpack the new history curriculum.

Visiting the classroom

We love to have parents helping in our classrooms and popping in to visit. I would just request that you check with the classroom teacher and make sure that it is convenient for you to be there. Sometimes it is distracting for the children to have a stranger in the classroom and we aim to provide a secure environment for all children.

Tough Guy and Gal Challenge (Mud Run)

The Mud Run is being held this Wednesday 4 August 2021. We need to leave school at 8:30am in order to get to Helensville on time. The children who are taking part need to bring spare clothes including warm socks and dry shoes as well as two old towels.

Rippa Tournament

The first tournament day was postponed to this Tuesday 3 August 2021. All other details remain the same.

Supercluster Cross-country

Samuel Baines did an awesome job of representing RidgeView at the Long Bay course at the end of last term. He came second in his age group which is an outstanding result. Well done, Samuel.

Science Roadshow

At the end of last term, Waahi Pakari went to the Science Roadshow that was hosted at AJHS. They had a wonderful time and saw some amazing science experiments.

Grants

We are delighted to announce that our Grants Committee was successful in applying for a grant from Pub Charities for a shade sail for outside Waahi Pakari. Thank you so much to Pub Charities for this.

Fruit for Morning Tea

Some of our parents have been providing apples, bananas or oranges that I am able to cut up and put out for morning tea. If you would like to make a contribution, please let me know.

New Telephone Number

We have received notification that our landline is going to be disconnected. As of the beginning of Term 3 we will only have the mobile number 027 593 5963.

Spare Clothing

We really need each child to bring some spare clothes to school during Terms 2 and 3. This means our older children as well as our littlies. It is so easy to slip in the mud and the wet, and we just don't have enough clothes for everyone.

Absences

If your child is going to be away from school, please either email Kalene on kalenem@ridgeview.school.nz or phone and leave a message on the answer phone. We need to follow up every day.
