Euphoria

Last term the Year 10 English class were lucky enough to travel to Burra for an excursion to attend the educational play, Euphoria, by the State Theatre Company South Australia and Country Arts SA, in association with Flinders University.

Written by Emily Steel, the play follows school teacher Meg wants to start a new festival called “Euphoria” to celebrate everything her country town has to offer and former student Ethan who doesn’t think there’s much to celebrate at all.

Emily Steel’s Euphoria brought to life a South Australian regional community, full of love, pain, complexity and humour, with two virtuosic actors playing a range of idiosyncratic characters.

The play was informed by real conversations between Steel and people who live in regional communities.

Toward the end of term 2 and during lockdown, the Year 10’s have been responding to the essay question, ‘How accurately does the play, Euphoria, represent life in a small country town?’.  Many students have provided great insight into their opinion of the play and have deemed it an accurate representation.
