From the 1/2 classrooms

This term the Integrated Studies topic is Social Justice – Celebrating Differences. 

As we explore this unit, the students will be involved in learning about food, games, music and traditions of different cultures. Students will develop an appreciation and show respect for those around us in multicultural Australia. 

As an introduction to the topic to Celebrate Differences, the students enjoyed the text ‘Elmer’ by David McKee. Elmer is an elephant that is different to the other elephants because his skin pattern is patchwork. The students had the opportunity to design their own pattern for Elmer. Following on from this, the students explored how are they are similar and different to a friend in their classroom.
