ANZAC  Day

Katharine Corrin

Term 2 started with a number of different services to commemorate ANZAC Day, a day to remember the sacrifices of those who have served our country.

This year, 2023 marks a significant year in our country’s history with regard to the service of the ANZACs.  It marks 50 years since the withdrawal of Australian troops from Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War. It is also 100 years since the creation of Legacy, the group responsible for supporting the widows, families, and dependants of servicepeople.

In commemorating ANZAC Day and the significant events associated with 2023, our students have been a credit to the school and others that they represent.

In the lead up to the end of Term 1, students in classes from P-10 had the opportunity to show their understanding and commemoration through the ANZAC Art Competition.

The College Captains, Abbey and Matt, did an excellent job of running the school ANZAC Commemorative service on Monday 24 April for all students P-12. We were fortunate to have a guest speaker at this event, Ms Annita Wilkinson, who spoke with the students about her time in the Royal Australian Navy. Primary Captains Steph and Tayla, laid a commemorative wreath.

On Tuesday 25 April at the Kyabram Town service, the College Captains, Aiden and Amity, spoke as part of the commemorative service at the Memorial Gardens. Primary Captains, Steph, Vika, and Tayla laid a commemorative wreath. We were also represented by Tom and Will, who led the drumming as part of the march through the Memorial Gardens.

On Wednesday 26 April, at the Warramunda Lone Pine service, the College Captains, Aiden and Matt, spoke and laid a wreath as part of the commemorative service at Warramunda.

Our school has been very well represented by a number of students – the College Captains, the Primary Captains, and others – at the various ANZAC Day events.
