As we move into Week 4, our interactive ‘Space Hub’ is still causing lots of excitement and stimulation for our Oral Language and Narrative writing. Classes are frequently visiting the Hub and exploring new scenarios  through imaginative role-play, observing, questioning and wondering.  We are continually questioning and adding to lists of ‘What do I see? Think? Wonder?’

As part of our Literacy focus and to  further build on our Narrative writing we have also offered a variety of ‘Space Incursions’ over the past fortnight.

This week our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students participated in a Virtual Reality Space Incursion. With the headsets, the children launched from Earth and travelled through deep, dark space past stars and across to the planets in our Solar System.  When visiting each planet they were presented with information relating to its surface, features and orbits.  We discussed the language of hot and cold planets, gravity and how some other planets also have moons.

It was wonderful to hear the children’s language and see their excitement on their faces as they adventured on their journey.

Our Middle and Senior students have also been participating in an incursion relating to Narrative Writing and Space. Presenters from the ‘100 Storey Building’ have been running workshops on Visual storytelling and idea generation with a focus on plot building and problem solving within stories.

Throughout the workshop the children were guided to design their own spacecraft, scan the surface of an alien planet, and make a short comic book plan for exploring this strange world.
