The Parable to the Gate of the Good Shepherd
John 10:1-18
In this week’s Gospel reading, we hear Jesus’ parable of the Gate of the Good Shepherd.
In this passage, Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who enters the sheepfold through the gate, and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. This is contrasted with thieves who try to climb over the fence to steal the sheep.
The sheep recognize Jesus’ voice and follow him out to graze, while the thieves want to take them away from the flock for their own purposes.
We live in a world where there is an abundance of voices vying for our attention. It can be difficult to discern what is trustworthy. At times, it can even be challenging.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the message of the parable of the Gate of the Good Shepherd. Help us to recognize your voice and follow the guidance of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. May we trust in His protection and find comfort in His loving care.
We pray for the strength and courage to follow the right path, even when it is difficult or unpopular. May we always remember that you are our only true guide, O Lord. May we seek your will in all that we do and find meaning and purpose in following your plan for our lives.
We also remember the sacrifices of the ANZACs and other brave men and women who fought for freedom and justice. May we honor their memory and continue their legacy of service and sacrifice
.
St. John Vianney, pray for us.
