Middle School Report

Message from the Middle School Assistant Principal

As we come to the end of a productive Term, I want to say thank you to the Middle School students, family and staff for all their support. Learning is an ongoing process and at times is challenging. I encourage our students to persevere and to be resilient in their learning.

I also want to highlight the importance of attendance; students with 90% or more attendance are more successful in their learning and are more connected with their peers and the college. I look forward to continuing our learning together in Term 2.

A big congratulations to the students in the girls and boys volleyball team that represented the College at Interschool Sports and have made it through to the next round. We are really proud of the effort and skills you showed and can't wait to see the results in the next round. It has also been great to see the Year 7 students trade in their merit cards to claim their rewards. Students have saved and traded their merit cards to wear sport uniform for a week, ice poles, watching a movie, canteen vouchers and being the teacher for the lesson!

Keep up the great work Year 7's! See you next term in your winter uniform! Have a safe and happy holidays!

Year 8

Wow, what a term we have had. There has been so much happening in the college across the term it hard believe we find time to teach and assess!

Thank you for the support all carers and parents have provided throughout the term in relation to uniform, attendance and learning resources.

Over the term we have had a huge range of activities, clubs and events run which I hope the students have enjoyed.

Some include:

  • Weekly games, textiles, readers & writers, music, media, volleyball and art  club
  • Weekly science support in STEM building
  • Yr 7-9 house activity event
  • Teacher vs student European handball competition
  • Interschool sport (volleyball)
  • Chess competition  (congratulations to Kevin Thai in 8C who was the runner up)
  • Harmony week celebration with a range of activities each day at lunchtime including a silent disco, cultural showcase, cooking, badge making, Bollywood class, African drumming, yoga, T-shirt printing and cultural dress day

Term 2 will see a change in uniform. Students will be required to wear the ECSC winter uniform so please be sure to have your child/ren try on their winter uniform to see if it still fits.

Sports uniform is only to be worn on sports day and leggings, hoodies and puffer jackets are not part of the uniform. Students wearing non-school items will receive a lunchtime consequence.

Next term on Thursday  27th April, in week 1, I will be making pancakes for any year 8 student who has achieved 90%+ attendance and any student who has 100% attendance for term 1 (and 2) will go into the draw to win an iPad.

Some events and activities I am looking forward to in term 2 include:

  • Return of weekly clubs (textiles, games, art, music, media, readers & writers)
  • Interschool sport (netball, soccer, AFL, badminton)
  • Teacher vs student futsal competition
  • House events

Year 9

Well done to all year 9's on a successful first term. It has been a very positive start to the school year, with many of our students receiving plenty of house points as a reward from their subject teachers.

Both Jarrod McDonald and myself are excited to see what’s in store for our year 9 cohort over the remainder of the year. Our focus areas next term will be based around attendance, correct uniform and also providing our students with an engaging year 9 program.

Throughout Term 1, our students have been involved in many activities/events which have continued to build our fantastic school culture. Some of these include: House activities, student vs teacher competitions, chess tournament, volleyball interschool sport, weekly clubs and harmony week celebrations.

When we return in Term 2, the winter uniform will be worn by our students. Please be sure to have your child/ren try on their winter uniform to see if it still fits. A reminder that the PE uniform is only to be worn on days where our students have a practical PE class. Students wearing non-school items will receive a consequence.

Term 2 is sure to be action packed with plenty of opportunities for our year 9 students to get involved with. Weekly clubs, Soccer/AFL/Netball interschool, enhanced careers & pathways curriculum, engaging elective classes and more house activities are just some of the exciting things to look forward to.

We wish all families a very safe and enjoyable break and we will see you all in term 2.
