Principal’s Message

Congratulations and Farewell

Congratulations and farewell to our long-serving Business Manager, Suzie Markopoulos, who has accepted a position at Clifton Hill Primary School from the beginning of term two. This is a great opportunity for Suzie and a challenge she is looking forward to.

After 29 years of service to the school, Suzie is certainly leaving a strong legacy at Roberts McCubbin Primary School, with big shoes to fill.

On behalf of the entire Robbie Mac community, I would like to wish Suzie the very best of luck in her new endeavour at Clifton Hill Primary School.

We will inform the community of our new Business Manager after undertaking a recruitment process in the early part of term two.

School Council - new members and new roles

Hearty thanks and congratulations to our new and returning School Council Office Bearers for 2023. I am delighted to announce that Jen Buxton has been appointed as our returning President and Adrian Giblett as our returning Treasurer. Dean McGowan has been appointed Vice-President for 2023, following on from Evan Pearson who has retired from Council after 8 years of service.

Again, our thanks to Jen, Adrian and Dean for filling this vital roles in the governance of our school.

Following the recent announcement of our new parent/carer School Council member, Marisa Simanjuntak, I would like to thank and welcome our new staff School Council members, Melinda Browne and Sonia Robinson. We greatly appreciate Melinda and Sonia filling this voluntary role.

New Principal (for a morning!)

Tuesday saw a brief but impactful regime-change as I stepped aside for the morning to make way for our new Principal and Assistant Principal team of Elliot and Jaksh. As the winner of the Fair Silent Auction "Principal for the Morning" prize, Elliot proudly donned his new badge, appointed his second in command and set about conducting an array of vital tasks. A fencing contractor was consulted, important announcements were made and emails sent, Milo was consumed and coffee was delivered to the tireless duo of Mrs Robinson and Ms Davies. The team conducted an inspection of classrooms and awarded stickers to students who were seen to be embodying the spirit of Robbie Mac.

After a morning of hard work, Elliot and Jaksh then saw fit to give the whole school an early recess! Great job team, I enjoyed my morning shadowing some future leaders!

PFA - Annual General Meeting

The PFA Annual General Meeting was held last Thursday, and I am delighted to announce that we have a new President, Wen Li Wong, mother of Arthur in Year 1. Joining Wen Li in the office bearer positions on the PFA are our returning Treasurer, Bård Saeter,  and returning Secretary, Elizabeth Staunton. Our sincere thanks to Wen Li, Bård and Elizbeth for filling these roles for 2023 - we look forward to the many fantastic PFA events and activities throughout the year!

SunSmart

A reminder that we are still in 'SunSmart' season. Please ensure all students have an approved hat. Opportunities to apply sunscreen will be provided by teachers.

Road Safety - Birdwood & Devon Street

Please be mindful of road rules before and after school, whether in a car or on foot. Cars must only stop as per street signage, and not within the restricted area either side of the Birdwood Street crossing. Disabled car parks must also be left clear for cars with permits displayed. Please also ensure that all community members are using the designated crossing wherever possible.

Road Safety - Haig Street

Community members have also raised concerns about safety on Haig Street before and after school, with students often crossing in an unsafe manner. We have asked City of Whitehorse to consider improvements to Haig Street, including a request for a new school crossing, however these requests have so far been unsuccessful.

Haig Street residents have also contacted the school to request that parents do not park cars across driveways before and after school.
