Senior School

In week 2, our Year 11 cohort spent the day exploring future career and study opportunities at the annual VCE Careers Expo at Caulfield Racecourse. Students spent the day asking questions, gathering information and developing their understanding of future opportunities that await from 2025 and beyond. Universities, TAFES, Employers and Government and Corporate Agencies from Victoria and all over Australia were available to our students, many of whom remarked on how the day opened their eyes to study and career options they had not previously considered deeply.

The following Friday, Athletics Day, was fantastically attended and supported by our senior students. Some of the Year 12 boys even brought along their ‘grandparents’ which was wonderful to see. It was a long day for some of those ‘elderly’ gentlemen but they provided great support. Lots of other wonderful costumes also added to the upbeat, positive atmosphere of a festive day.

This week our Year 12 students were privileged to be addressed by the amazing Ben Pettingill, who shared his inspirational life story as a young Melbourne man whose life was turned upside down when he lost 98% of his vision in the space of 24 hours at the age of 16. Ben’s engaging, matter-of-fact and life affirming speech struck a chord with all those students lucky enough to be present to hear it. Ben was able to impart some very practical, straightforward advice to our Year 12 cohort.

The previous week our Year 11 students took part in an equally engaging and inspirational weekly Assembly featuring DJ Daniella and Himal, both from Success Integrated. Treating the students to the latest music hits (which inspired some awesome dancing from Ms Howe and Ms Hanslow) and combining this with life lessons and practical lifestyle tips for VCE, our Year 11s found this session uplifting and full of useful advice.

Preparations are ramping up for the VCE Formal on the second last day of term. The Formal Committee has begun meeting and is planning full steam ahead to make this a great night of fun and celebration. A reminder to Year 11 and 12 students and parents to pay and consent for the Formal on Compass ASAP.

Year 11s have also met with Ms Howe to begin designing a VCE Jacket for 2024. Stay tuned for further details!

Congratulations to Amelia Elliott

Recently I participated in the Victorian Dance Festival, which many companies and dancers attended. I scored an audition for the Joffrey School of Dance. This is a dance company located worldwide, based in New York City. I  have been accepted into the commercial styles of jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary, for summer intensives, as well as being offered a 4-year training program. The program offers the ability to increase knowledge, capability, and choreography in all styles, also performances, and many career opportunities.

Gold medal and national title to Oliver Beaton

Congratulations to Year 10 student Oliver Beaton, who is the new National JM17 Keirin Champion!  Oliver was selected to represent Victoria at the 2023 Junior Track National Championships in Brisbane last month.  What an amazing effort - well done Oliver!
