School Council/PFA 2

Hello from Newlands School Council

School Council had their third meeting for the year on 29 July.  As usual, there was plenty on the agenda for discussion and decision. This included:

  • The importance of communicating the role of the $280 parent contribution (annual school fees) to families – including what essential educational items it funds, what is lost without this contribution, and payment plan options. This followed a review of the Finance Sub-Committee reports.
  • Reflections from the Education Sub-Committee on learning from round 1 of remote learning and what refinements have been made this term as a result.
  • First report from the new Communications Sub-Committee, including a proposal to strengthen the school website as an information portal for both prospective parents and the current school community.
  • Approval of the Parent and Friend Association proposal to host a ‘Locked Down Trivia Night’ to connect the school community during this time of separation and to raise funds for the school.
  • Discussion of Newlands Primary Annual Report, ahead of submission to the Education Department.

Another recent decision by Council that many in the community may be excited to hear about: approval to trial Classroom Cuisine – a healthy lunch order service – for when Newlands returns to regular on-site learning.  Another post-pandemic treat to look forward to!

Council meeting # 4 will be on 16 September. A reminder that any member of the school community is welcome to join in as an observer. Contact Luke or Ross if you are interested.
