Hello Newlands community!

The students have been creating some amazing pieces of work this fortnight.

The Foundation/1 students have let their imaginations run wild! Last week, we used objects from around our house and, using clever line design, turned them into artworks! Look at the terrific pieces from Beatrix and Taylor. This week we made listened to Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House. During the week, we collected cardboard boxes from home and then constructed our own very fine houses! We all had lots of fun.

2/3s have been working alongside their Inquiry topic of cultures. Last week we visited Australia’s neighbour, New Zealand. We learnt about the Koru and its significance to the Maori culture. Students created their own Koru art works and the results were just amazing. Have a look at what Adele, Adelyn, Adam, Alessia and Marlowe created!

4/5/6s have been looking at some of the art of New York City. This term we have studied Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and last week, students began a  three-week project based on the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat. We have been studying his style and use of symbolism in his art work. Students created their own symbol and have made a piece of artwork influenced by Basquiat’s style, using their symbols to convey a message. We worked with a rubric to make sure our work was the best it could be. Stay tuned next edition to see some of the finished pieces. Meanwhile, enjoy some Warhol and Haring style art works by Edith, Cooper M, Lily and Mateo

Thanks everyone and see you in a fortnight!
