The Lion Library

Naidoc Activities

The Lion Library held a number of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Students and staff engaged with informative displays, colouring in and craft activities and many students took part in the NAIDOC 2020 quiz. Students were able to enter the quiz by scanning the QR code on the posters on display around the library. The interactive quiz required them to search through clues to answer a series of questions designed at increasing awareness of Aboriginal culture. Well done to everyone who took part.

The winners of the NAIDOC Week competitions are:

• Daniel – Yr 7

• Jared – Yr 7

• Jesse – Yr 7

• Evelyn – Yr 7

• Meghan – Yr 8

• Sean – Yr 10

• Kathy – Yr 11

• Emilee – Yr 11

A New Book Reading Zone

The Lion Library remains open and is regularly used to full capacity before school and at break times. Great care is being taken to keep the library safe for student use including measures to sanitise surfaces, books and other resources. We encourage students to keep reading and to keep borrowing books. A new ‘No Phone Reading Zone’ has been set up with comfortable lounges and a great collection of books on display. We hope students will take the opportunity to make some time in their busy day to cuddle up with a good book and enjoy the new space.

Lunchtime Activities

Many activities are reoccurring this term including, origami, mindfulness colouring in activities, Maths for fun worksheets and knitting Wednesday at lunchtime. Also on Wednesday at lunchtime students can take part in the Kindness Hearts project. Finally, keep your eye out for the writers and illustrators group meetings if you are an aspiring author or illustrator. Follow us on Instagram to stay informed about library events and activities.

And that's a Wrap!

Staff and students have until week 9 of this term to complete the 2020 challenges. For the 20 words challenge pop into the library to view the entire list of 20 words on display around the library. Keep making squares and reading books to go into a draw to win gift vouchers to Dymocks and Harry Hartog book stores in Macquarie Centre. There will be a special morning tea in the library for staff and students who have completed the challenges.
