Cultural Awareness

OUR CULTURES AT LNPS

Our data collection as part of enrolment gives us information about the make up of our school community. It is fascinating for our students when we spend time investigating where people originate from, looking back at previous generations of migrants gives them a sense of belonging.

Lockleys North Students are understanding and considerate of people different from themselves.

We have 52 students who were born outside of Australia which is approximately 11% of our school. The top 3 countries of origin are India, South Africa and Pakistan.

Identifying with our heritage and cultural background is important for all cultures represented at Lockleys North. Almost 45% of our parents identify their heritage as Australian, with 15% Greek and almost 8% Italian.

The next four countries making up the TOP 7 are England/UK, India, Pakistan and China all with between 2% and 4%. This data may be slightly skewed as some parents have more than one student at LNPS.

Lockleys North Students are co-operative, caring, sincere and respectful to all.

In Term 1, we asked our fabulous staff to develop opportunities for shared learning across school to improve connectedness and help our community to develop their understanding of other cultures represented at our school.

Lockleys North Students have knowledge of the place they live and other communities in Australia and around the world.

Our Cultural Awareness events, which were postponed, have been rescheduled for early Term 3. Classes will continue to work together to discover more about focus cultures as well as participating in some fun activities organised by external providers.

We are excited to inform our community that all classes will participate in a Rhythm Culture - African Drum, Sing & Dance Workshops will take place on Monday 27th July (WEEK 2) and the Bollywood Cultural Experience on Tuesday 4th - Thursday 6th August  (WEEK 3) next term.

All invoices which were paid in Term 1 will carry over for these incursions. If payments were not received, Final Reminders will be distributed early in Term 3.

We appreciate your prompt payment for these incursions.

Thank you,

Mike
