Wellbeing 2020

Mike Tarleton - Assistant Principal (Engagement & Wellbeing)

Having fun is an essential part of life and it was terrific to see our events team having fun filming last week in preparation for our school disco. The group responsible applied their filming techniques and displayed confidence to perform for a huge audience! We hope it brought a smile to your faces.

Students that were not caught in front of the camera have done a phenomenal job organising, selling tickets and publicising this event. We are very proud of Elsa, Emily, Emi, Juliette, Ayla, Arielle, Amalia & Yana and we'd like to put on record our gratitude to these students for giving up a great amount of time to ensure success and enjoyment for others.

We know that the students attending will have a brilliant time!

In case you missed our Facebook advertisement, our Silent Disco will take place after school on Thursday 2nd July. Tickets are on sale this week from the Office only and are priced at $10 for the 1.5 hour events which will be hosted by PARTY HIGHER:

Early Years 3:15-4:45pm
Primary Years 5:15-6:45pm

THURSDAY IS A CASUAL DAY

Gold coin donations and all profits are going towards a The Smith Family and The Childhood Cancer Association, chosen by our team so please give generously.

'Lockleys North students understand how the choices they make affect themselves and others.'

It is always great to get positive feedback from our students, as this shows us their appreciation for what we do. This week, I was sent several students who had used their Active Lunch experiences as the stimulus for their recount writing. Fantastic work by Lilah and George!

Tik Tok 'til you drop!

On Thursday and Friday every week F12 holds a Tik Tok 'til you drop for Mellor Classes in the Gym to have some fun!

First we lined up. Secondly they told us the rules. After that we boogied out our hearts!

Then we played some games. It was epic! I felt good. I felt amazed. I felt EPIC!

Soccer Tournament

First we got our tops on. Then we had the captains do Rock Paper Scissors Shoot. Then we started to play. We kept playing soccer and we played and someone got the ball out.

Second, people were scoring goals. We started to win.

Last we had a photo taken and then the coach said 'well done'. I felt really good.

If you have any comments, please email me and I will pass your feedback on to our Play Leaders. Mike.Tarleton884@schools.sa.edu.au.

‘Lockleys North students will actively seek a healthy lifestyle.’

In the last few weeks, our Play Leaders have initiated a Soccer Tournament for our Year 1/2 students, with games every Monday and Thursday at lunchtimes. The emphasis is on FUN, teamwork, promoting listening skills and building resilience - things don't always go our own way especially in sport!

Watching my football team (Wigan Athletic) has always been about celebrating our family bonds and unity (surprisingly all of my siblings follow the same team). Supporting a team that hit the heights of the English Premier League and becoming FA Cup Champions, we have also seen many lows - a wonderful emotional rollercoaster and journey to demonstrate the ups and downs of life.

If we can take something from sport, it's that having success is great, but having failure allows us to appreciate the successes even more!

Having these opportunities during lunchtimes have helped our students to keep active while restrictions have been in place elsewhere. Our Play Leaders and coaches are trying to foster a love of sport and of being active but also developing bonds and connections to ensure we support each other when things aren't going well.

We'd like to congratulate all of our teams who have received points for Pursuit of Excellence, Honesty, Care & Concern and Respect. The figures below are correct as of the end of WEEK 9.

Brian (BLUE) 3440 Points

Grallina (GREEN) 3300

Pierson (RED) 3140

Malurus (YELLOW) 3135

FRIDAY IS TEAM COLOURS DAY!

Team Meetings took place on Friday in Week 9. Team Captains celebrated achievements with some of our students receiving their first 50 POINT Certificate.

We would like to be able to post photos of our certificate winners each fortnight. It will not have names attached, if your child receives a certificate for 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 Points, we will only post if we have permission for web images.

BRIAN: A Week in Review

Dear Lockleys North Primary School Community,

As you may know, Sports Day has been postponed for the time being, but the teachers and House Captains have worked closely together to come up with a solution. We have come up with the new point system that goes towards the final Sports Day results.

We will still be having Sports Day and the points we have earned until then will go towards the final score.

To earn points you have to show one or more of the school values that is recognised and awarded by one of the teachers, or House Captains. The greater amount of points you gain, the more it benefits your team.

As of week 10, Brian is in the lead followed closely by Grallina. We currently have 3440 points, due the students of Brian displaying the values of Pursuit of Excellence, Care & Concern, Honesty and Respect.

Let’s continue to keep up the good work so the students in Brian can hopefully win Sports Day!

Sincerely the Brian Team Captains,

Skyla, Jonie, Daniel & Danilo

Brian Team Chant:

Blue is the colour.

BRIAN is the name!

We’re all in it together,

Winning is our aim.

We’re rough, we’re tough,

We’re hard to beat.

So come on Brian,

Let’s move our feet.

Together we stand,

Together we fall.

We are winners and winners take all.

GO BRIAN!
