Prep 

Learning Intention To extend our knowledge of emotions by experimenting to show contrast in voice and facial expressions. 

This Term, Preps will be exploring different ways to use their voice. Students will experiment using high and low voices and different ways to demonstrate emotion in our voice through rhyme, song and story-telling. 

 

Year 1 

Learning Intention To extend our knowledge of emotions by applying variation in voice when acting. 

This Term, Year 1 learners will be learning about different strategies to vary their voice to demonstrate different emotions. We will be demonstrating these skills through rhyme, song and storytelling. 

 

Year 2  

Learning Intention To transfer our knowledge of exaggerated emotions and movement into storytelling with toys or puppets. 

This Term, Year 2 learners will be using toys or puppets to apply their understanding of demonstrating emotion and movement to tell or retell a story. We will focus on the use of voice and body language. 

 

Year 3 

Learning Intention To transfer our knowledge of emotions in music, to explore how emotions can be expressed in dance. 

This Term, Year 3s will be learning techniques dancers use to demonstrate different emotions with their body shapes and movements. We will watch and analyse dances as well as experiment with applying these to create our own movements. 

 

Year 4 

Learning Intention Explore how movement of the body and interactions between dancers can be used to represent a story or idea. 

This Term, Year 4s will be looking at different techniques dancers and performers use to represent a story or an idea using their body shapes, movements and interactions with other performers. We will watch and analyse dances as well as experiment with applying these to create our own dance sequences. 

 

Year 5 

Learning Intention To recognise and analyse the element ‘space’ in dances we view. 

This Term, Year 5s will be introduced to the 5 elements of dance, focussing on ‘space’. Learners will view and analyse a wide range of dances and identify how they utilise space to demonstrate a story or an idea, as well as entertain an audience. 

 

Year 6  

Learning Intention To recognise and analyse the element ‘space’ and ‘energy’ in dances we view. 

This Term, Year 6s will be learning about the 5 elements of dance, focussing on ‘space’ and ‘energy’. Learners will view and analyse a wide range of dances and identify how they utilise ‘space’ and ‘energy’ to demonstrate a story, an emotion or an idea.
