Learning Intention: To understand the language of family members in Mandarin.
Students will be learning about the language of family members in Mandarin such as father and mother. They will also be practicing some learnt vocabulary through singing. By the end of this term, students will be able to introduce their family members in Mandarin.
Year 1
Learning Intention: To understand different types of fruits and vegetables in Mandarin.
Students will reinforce their knowledge of fruits and begin to learn about different types of vegetables. They will learn how to describe their favorite fruits and vegetables. They will also engage in Chinese songs in relation to this topic. By the end of this term, students will be able to apply the learnt language in conversations.
YEAR 2
Learning Intention: To understand different types of food in Mandarin.
Students will explore words and sentences in relation to food. They will learn to describe their favourite food in Mandarin. They will also be introduced to some popular Chinese food. By the end of this term, students will build their ability to engage in conversations about food in Mandarin.
YEAR 3
Learning Intention: To build vocabulary around room settings.
Students will learn about words and sentences related to rooms in their houses and study basic sentence structures in Mandarin. They will also be introduced to some everyday language. By the end of this term, students will build their ability to introduce rooms settings in the house, in Mandarin.
Year 4
Learning Intention: To understand the language around sports in Chinese
Students will explore new vocabulary and sentences in relation to sports. They will also be introduced to popular sports in different countries, such as Australia and China. By the end of the term, students will build their ability to introduce sport activities in Mandarin.
Year 5
Learning Intention: To understand the language around weather in Chinese.
Students will study words and sentences about weather. They will combine their previous knowledge with this topic. Students will also explore the Global Inquiry unit ‘pollution’ in Mandarin. By the end of term, students will be able to use spoken and written Chinese to construct simple conversations.
Year 6
Learning Intention: To understand the language of hobbies in Chinese.
This study will cover the vocabulary for hobbies in Mandarin. Students will practice writing sentences that are relevant to this topic and have opportunities to practice oral fluency by talking about hobbies of their family and friends. During this term, Year 6 students will also research and explore the similarities and differences between popular hobbies in China and other counties.
