Year 9 Program

RAID - Respect, Achievement, Innovation, Diversity

Recently in RAID, Year 9s went to Melbourne, and split off in groups to do different activities.

I and one other group went to the Old Melbourne Gaol. We started off the day with a tour of the Gaol, during which our kind tour guide told us interesting stories about life at the Gaol and the inmates there.

After that I had lunch, then came back to the Gaol for a mock trial in the courthouse. We were all given roles to act out a script. I was lucky enough to act as the Judge!

I interviewed a few of my friends from the other groups.

“Well, we got to the science school and there were these scientists in training who sat us down and taught us how chromosones work with genes, and about blood types. Using this info, we had to solve a murder by matching 2 blood samples together.”

“I went to the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria). We were taken on a tour by a girl named Leah. In the NGV, there was a glass ceiling and three stories worth of art that came in the form of paintings, sculptures, furniture and other ornaments.”

Last week in RAID, students were expecting to go on a scavenger hunt around Melbourne, but plans suddenly changed.

It was decided that it was much too cold to be out in the rain all day, so instead we used a city loop train to get to Melbourne Central and spent the day there.

Every hour on the hour, the clock there puts on a show and plays Waltzing Matilda. My friend and I watched it, it was a wonderful sight!

Some students went shopping, others went to the movies and some just hung out.

Next week on RAID busses are replacing trains. We will be heading to Footscray station by 10am this time and walking to Victoria University Footscray Park Campus where they'll tell us about tertiary study options.

Students will then be given time to grab some food in Footscray, we want them to try a new cuisine they've never tried before given the massive variety available in Footscray.
