Senior School

Years 10 to 12

Last week kicked off National Reconciliation Week with staff being asked to present a short video at the start of class to inform students of the significance of this week and to promote the key theme Be Brave, Make Change.

As we steady head towards the end of Semester 1 the students are under pressure to achieve their personal academic best by achieving coursework, SAC’s and assessments. We are seeing a large amount of students completing redemption tasks and navigating absenteeism due to illness.

Year 12

Valedictory committee recently met for the first time and are working towards important tasks such as ticket design, DJ hire and Teacher/Student Awards.

As expected the pressures of SAC’s and coursework completion is taking its toll on the Year 12’s. It is very normal to hear mutterings of changing to Non-Scored VCE, it is not recommended and the process is looked at on a case-by-case basis. The misconception of it being as easy way out is untrue and Senior School will not recommend this approach without a clear, educated pathway choice.

Year 11

Year 11 Connect had an enlightening session with Chris Hewitt this week about the importance of coursework completion for Unit 1 studies. Chris discussed how the VCE process works in terms of accumulation of units across the 2 years, addressing Gaps of Knowledge, and approaches to achieving ATAR and VCE Certificate. It was concerning to discover that the vast majority of Year 11 students have not downloaded the VCAA Study Designs for their studies. Can we ask that you encourage students to do this and read through them so they understand what exactly the study requirements are, and how the assessments are structured.

Year 10

The Year 10 cohort had a return to regular learning this week after a successful Work Experience program. A vast majority of students achieved a positive workplace experience which we are sure will play a part in their upcoming subject selections process this term. Thank you to all the staff who contributed to the success of this program with special thanks to Megan Penn for all her organisational skills.

From the 23rd - 27th of May, week 5 of term 2 I did work experience at Langley McKimmie - Chartered Accountants. During my week there I experienced new things and met new people, it was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of. It was quite different to school from having to finish at 5:00pm instead of 3:15pm as well as being given more responsibility and freedom in what I did. I learnt how to do a variety of new skills including scanning and filing documents into their computer system along with mailing. I had a great time there and would like to thank Langley McKimmie - Chartered Accountants for having me for work experience in addition to the wonderful people that work there.
